The eighteen year old was likely showing out to the tyounger boys, thinking he could take a car and they could drive back to Maryland. The IQ level between the three was probably less than300.
If he is 18 and the other actors are 15, then logic points to the dead one being the leader due to seniority.

Apparently carjacking has become the thing again, like the Uber driver that was crushed to death in a carjacking by two black girls near the Nationals stadium in DC — a family man, he tried to hang on to the car as they sped away :(
