Challenging Night for Incumbents Across PA

In what will go down as one of the most memorable primary nights in Pennsylvania history, eight incumbents fell by the wayside to challengers.

One of the most notable was GOP state house appropriations chair Stan Saylor who was defeated by upstart Wendy Fink in the 94th district race. Saylor, who has held the York County seat since 1993, fell by a 55-44 count.

Another York Countian – 47th district Republican Keith Gillespie – was resoundingly defeated by challenger Joe D’Orsie. Gillespie had served in the chamber since 2003. D’Orsie, 36, is Communications Director at Praise Community Church in East York.

The dual losses caused York County GOP chairman Jeff Piccola to resign his position effective immediately. State Rep. Mike Jones had gone against Piccola, endorsing the two challengers, stating it was time for a change.

Two-term Democrat Brian Kirkland was defeated in the 159th District primary by Carol Kazeem, an outreach worker from Chester.

And five-term incumbent Pam DeLissio was ousted by frontline nurse Tarik Khan in the 194th House District which serves Philadelphia and Montgomery Counties.

Incumbent Pat Browne, the senate appropriations chair, is in a tight battle with Jarrett Coleman in the 16th District which covers parts of Lehigh and Bucks counties. With 98 of 104 precincts reporting, Coleman, a school board director in the Parkland School District, has a 30-vote lead. We will watch this one closely.

On the other side of the Commonwealth, two-term Republican Mike Puskaric was defeated in the 39th House district by former Elizabeth Township supervisor Andrew Kuzma, while former Westmoreland County Republican Committee chairwoman Jill Cooper unseated first-term incumbent Jason Silvis in the newly redrawn 55th district,

It’s not enough. More RINOs must be primaried and removed from office. The RINOs are the bane of MAGA.

So, how long will it take to count those remaining 5% of the votes in the Republican Senate primary? Logic says it should have been done by now, but who knows?

All that would even think of being aligned with Rove, Bush, Romney, Liz, etc, must be primaried.

She must be pretty tough to survive Chester.

“Thanks for posting these down-ballot results.”

Legislative chambers both large and small (from school board and city council all the way up the the US Congress) will be remade after November.

This type of purging will make remaining incumbents, along with those just elected, continually look over their shoulders as they’re voting.

For a long time, those in government didn’t fear the people. But the tide is turning.

I don’t think Stan was a RINO; a Regan Republican for sure who became an establishment Republican perhaps. He is greatly beloved by his constituents, he has always fought hard to solve their problems and always supported military/patriotism. He never understood us “ultra-conservatives” who didn’t want help or money directed back to us, we just want government to leave us alone and to FIGHT liberals. But he was no friend of liberals, or a RINO.

YAHOO!!!

I've been saying it for years. Primaries are the best way to unseat an incumbent.

That's how AOC got her seat from a 4 (I think) term incumbent

So few people vote in primaries that just a couple of dozen people can swing it.

Democrats: YOU CAN DO IT TOO!

A ‘bring home the bacon’ republican is as bad as a democrat.

You got to make deals to get money. For every dollar he brought home there was probably another dollar he had to give on the dem side.

I’d rather not have the money and be left alone

I agree completely, but we are definitely a minority. Government should not be in the business of “helping” PERIOD. Protect property rights, including the right to protect property, provide for the common defense.

There was some very dirty pool with the York County Saylor vs. Fink race.

Radio commercials “time to retire Harrisburg Stan” began airing every hour on the local Cumulus affiliate WITHOUT a disclaimer “paid for by....”

After Wendy Fink emerged as the candidate some of her materials also failed to have the required disclosures.

I will be trying to follow the money and find who has been funding this political newcomer.

Vote splitting remains a big problem. It is a tool used by GOPe and the rats against the republican base. Runoffs would fix it but McConnell and his gang of AD’s do all they can to prevent them.
