Days after taking office as Germany’s vice chancellor and economy minister in December, Robert Habeck asked his most senior officials for a detailed assessment of his country’s dependence on Russian energy. The result shocked him.
The country heavily relied on Russian hydrocarbons to power vehicles and factories and heat homes, and there was no contingency plan to secure other supplies, Mr. Habeck said. The government had no viable alternative to Russian imports.

See #38. Actually seeing Europe converting into a Third World hellhole on your border is worrisome but Russia is going to survive it.
Only out of Germany’s cold dead hand will they give up Russian gas. It’s too cheap compared to other sources. The one concession Germany is making in their own self interest is building energy back up infrastructure like the LNG terminals to import more expensive LNG as a substitute should Russia squeeze them or the US and our Eastern European allies pressure them enough to cut it back. Barring that, they have no intention of giving up the crack pipe after this war is over. In the interests of maintaining an economically competitive national edge, they will keep importing cheap gas until they can’t anymore
BS. Spain developed significant LNG capacity much faster for much less.
Here is a current project to build a new LNG terminal. There are other existing ones, this is just an add-on.
You are welcome to scale capacity and cost for a reasonable estimate.

One can hope that a cold winter will change minds...
Greens live off a set of theoretical worries. Real ones are more persuasive.
Good luck with that. Because Plan B isn’t going to work. Solar and wind will never power any developed country. And I’m guessing there is no Plan C.
Germany gave up on economically competitive electricity long ago. It had the highest electric rates (even for commercial/industrial) in Europe for decades, and that was mainly due to the vast sums spent on “green” projects and their vast inefficiency. Look it all up.
Check out the Spanish consumption and sources.
“The Germans are going to overpay enough in a few months to finance a couple of new pipelines from Russia to Asia.”
LOL, nice of the Germans to finance Russian pipeline expansion.
interesting ... include it in the initial comment ...
The Putin Xi Freeper wing is scared.
How in the hell does a guy (this fellow Habeck) in position to take such a position need to have a report done to at least in general know what his country’s dependence on Russian energy is? Good God...
“That was incredibly imprudent”
And recall the Germans also shut down their nuclear plants.
““Let’s send them all our gas so we can double and triple our gas bills”
We probably flare more gas than we export.”
Thanks and you are probably right.
BUT, if we send 10% or more of our gas to the Europeans who have been maniacally infected with Russia Derangement Syndrom (RDS) we will likely continue to flare that gas. So, the bottom line is we reduce the supply available to the US and thus increase the ever-growing price of our own natural gas.
