Only out of Germany’s cold dead hand will they give up Russian gas. It’s too cheap compared to other sources. The one concession Germany is making in their own self interest is building energy back up infrastructure like the LNG terminals to import more expensive LNG as a substitute should Russia squeeze them or the US and our Eastern European allies pressure them enough to cut it back. Barring that, they have no intention of giving up the crack pipe after this war is over. In the interests of maintaining an economically competitive national edge, they will keep importing cheap gas until they can’t anymore

Germany gave up on economically competitive electricity long ago. It had the highest electric rates (even for commercial/industrial) in Europe for decades, and that was mainly due to the vast sums spent on “green” projects and their vast inefficiency. Look it all up.
