Quite a large number of civilian residents of Mariupol are no longer living because they were bombed to smithereens, targeted deliberately or through incompetence by the russians. Those who still are alive certainly are not free, and will never be free as long as they are under russian occupation.
Enough of the silly propaganda. The Russians never, ever intended to invade those cities. There goal all along has been to liberate the ethnically Russia people in Donbass of eight-years of persecution and death at the hands of neo-Nazis and Ukrainian nationals that sought to exterminate them and to build a land bridge from Crimea to at least Mariupol and, ultimately, to Transnistria. And, those objectives are going as planned.
