‘Germany will rearm’ - that’s hilarious.
The US military has to waste space, time and money keeping obsolete equipment functional so ‘powerhouses’ like Germany can keep operating with us. As a fellow German War College comrade told me - ‘why should we buy anything when we know you’ll just give it to us when you replace it?’
NATO is a vehicle for globalism, which always puts American last. It needs to die.

I see that you chose to post this as “Extended News” despite it being an opinion piece from Medea Benjamin from two and a half years ago.
It’s a sign that you’re stomping your feet looking for attention, now that other countries are looking at what Putin / Russia did to Ukraine, and are quite understandably looking for ways to protect themselves.
As to whether they should be allowed to join NATO, I’m sure there are many good arguments pro and con. But is this screen sidebar-worthy “Extended News”? NO!!

What place?
The mission was complete and the alliance should have disbanded or at least significantly scaled back it’s operations.
If the wall truly fell and the west was looking to meet the east, then there would be no need for NATO. If the wall fell so NATO could be expanded and Russia can be swallowed up, well then here we are in 2022
you only need to go as far as wikipedia to see that NATO has lost it’s mission purpose.
