Cruz was born a Canadian/Cuban in Canda to a Cuban father, he is NOT a natural born citizen.
Natural born citizens have ONE nationality.
The entire purpose of the clause was to prevent foreigners from being CIC. Cruz WAS born a foreigner.

Hmmmm, I dunno about that. There have been 8 presidents with one parent born beyond the US. The definition of “natural born citizen” is accepted as meaning birthright citizen (a whole ‘nother argument).
If at least ONE parent is an American (and Cruz’s mother was born in the US and never renounced her citizenship), you are a citizen regardless of where the birth occurs.
Not that I am a huge fan of Cruz.
Flawed? Yes, I think so too. But most others don’t seem to.
