It was last June when a British destroyer entered Black Sea waters claimed by Russia since its 2014 annexation of Crimea. In response, Russian Coastguard fired shots into the distance.
Days later, the warship joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) naval exercise in the region involving 32 countries and co-led by the United States and Ukraine.
Some analysts point to events like this as examples of Russia’s fear of NATO and claims of provocation, and of why the military alliance was one of President Vladimir Putin’s justifications for war on Ukraine.

Sounds like this may be a reasonable idea as long as it does not become a boondoggle for the US taxpayer.
We should definitely wait until there are adults back in charge to determine a strategy. Potemkin Joe and his merry morons will only screw it up.
IIRC, SEATO is (or was) a thing.
Unfortunately, with Biden at the helm, I don’t see anything involving the U.S., and especially anything initiated by the U.S. under Biden, deterring any foreign power.
He’s sort of like somebody, whose name I hope can escape me so that I can’t speak ill of him, in Rome, who can only manage to be tough with those who are most loyal to the Church as traditionally understood.
Certainly hope so.

We damn well should be. Our aim should be to strengthen ties to India and bring other Asian countries into alliance with the Quad. I’m specifically thinking of South Korea, the Philippines, Singapore and Indonesia. Maybe eventually Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam as well.
Everybody should be able to see China’s continuing aggression, its attempts to push its sphere of influence ever further out into the Pacific, etc.
I guess these “journalists” are unfamiliar with SEATO (South East Asia Treaty Organization).
SEATO was paper. Viet Nam fell(’75) and Ferdinand Marcos flew to Peking within days to kiss butt. Thailand was treated as a conquered country in WW2. Didn’t put up a fight. Koreans are crazy. Are they gonna take the lead over the slackers? I’m sure the P.I. will retake their islands but only after the others get the upper hand in a conflict.
You see the world is like a John Wayne movie. He’s the leader and he’s the biggest.
