Yup. I agree.

I figure it highly unlikely that Donetsk people’s Republic and Luhansk people’s Republic will return to Ukraine, leave alone Crimea

In the words of Mr. Wolf in Pulp Fiction, let's don't be shucking each others corn just yet.

I don't see it is possible for Ukraine to keep combat units on the front lines for another three months without relief. They have committed almost all reserves and are in contact with the enemy on a long front, under regular artillery fire. Not a good situation.
