"McCain called a halt to his campaign so that he could return to DC to manage the financial crisis..."

Obama remained on the campaign trail saying, "I've got a pen and a phone," meaning he can be reached at any time on the campaign trail if he needed to be back in Washington. Many of us here on FR felt that if he wanted to be President so bad, he should have suspended his campaign as well, and headed back to D.C. as McCain did. From what I understand, Obama used the same "I have a pen and a phone" comment in January 2014. The full quote of his comment then was "I will use my pen and phone to take on Congress."

He should have shoved his pen and phone up his ass, and rotated.

That, unfortunately, conjures up unfortunate images that must be excised by recalling the “joke” that “My wife would divorce me if she could figure out how to do it without making me happy.”

Perhaps if Zero faced with a choice between the Bath House and the White House, he might have pulled a McCain.

Pretty sure I wanted McCain to stay in the race. That thing was passing whether he was there or not. He could’ve stayed in contact with staff in DC if there was anything needing “managing” and detoured for a day to make the vote. If he “had” to be there for two weeks, he was not running a serious campaign. It was an excuse to take a vacation from winning hearts and minds.
