They joined NATO before. Nukes coming from their nations would be just as deadly?
There’s a crack many miles wide in your logic. It’s the border of Latvia, Estonia, and the Russian border they are on.
They both joined NATO in 2004.
You forgot: Lithuania (borders the Kaliningrad Oblast) and Poland (ditto).
And as you rightly point out: No NATO states bordering Russia have nukes stationed on them.
Regards,
And Norway is a long-term NATO member..and borders Russia
I was addressing Latvia.
I think it could fairly be said that there was no intent
to put nukes or troops in the Ukraine. It was a defense
pack to keep Russia from doing things like it is doing
right now.
Well, we border Russia and have nukes.
Granted nuking Siberia isn’t a major concern.
The “Nukes on the border!” is a cop out. Russia will not tolerate any power in their sphere of influence. Trouble is that is the northern hemisphere.
Agree completely - NATO membership does not have to include the presence of nuclear weapons. And there is absolutely no reason the exact same thing couldn't be true with respect to Ukraine as well. That's why the entire excuse that Russian had to invade to prevent nuclear weapons from being deployed in Ukraine was a lie.
