When I was working for a fire department, we used to get a sudden rash of overdoses when a more potent batch of various types of drugs than normal would hit town. There is no quality control as we would normally understand the concept with illegal drugs. The potency varies greatly. I am surprised that the number is not higher. I can’t tell you how many deaths that I went to.
Many were young people who seemingly had the potential to eventually become productive citizens. But most had started making poor life choices years before and it was the culmination of a downward spiral.
They use cheap dime store blenders to mix the fentanyl in with the other drugs they are selling before they mold the pills. The blenders do a bad job of blending, such that one pill has practically no fentanyl, but the next one kills you.
A few months ago a friend called me early Saturday morning to tell me that his 22 year old son had overdosed the night before. My friend hadn’t called his mom yet. I think he was practicing on me.
The kid had everything going. Good job, college degree, strong Christian family. They thought he’d conquered it.
