An estimated $350 million in undisclosed royalties were paid to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and hundreds of its scientists, including the agency’s recently departed director, Dr. Francis Collins, and Dr. Anthony Fauci, according to a nonprofit government watchdog.
“We estimate that up to $350 million in royalties from third parties were paid to NIH scientists during the fiscal years between 2010 and 2020,” Open the Books CEO Adam Andrzejewski told reporters in a telephone news conference on May 9.

Believe me it’s much worse than any of us ever suspected.
The scientists who wrote the paper above say the chance of this virus developing naturally is like 3 trillion to one. There’s no question this was developed as a bioweapon in a lab, it’s ludicrous to pretend it emerged from zoonosis.
That’s exactly right.
If it is illegal for serving SES employees to receive royalties on patents (and keep the money) then this is a problem.
If not, it isn’t.
Does anybody know? If 1675 scientists at NIH received $200K each in royalties in their careers, and if it is legal, it doesn’t seem like a big deal.
Does the story say if they kept the money?
I don't know the policy for Fed scientists, but as a worker bee at a state research university it was somewhat common for professors to have side gigs. They aren't suppose to mix grant research with their private activities and have to to fill out yearly conflict of interest forms. The rules were relaxed during years of small pay raises. I suspect a similar approach was taken at the federal level.
“There’s no question it was developed as a bioweapon”
It’s a pretty crappy bioweapon if that’s true.
I dunno, it crippled Western economies (plus whatever the vaxes are going to do) and nobody's nuked China yet. Seems to be working pretty good to me.
According to one scientist I’ve seen commenting on this, much of the bioweapon research today is for incapacitating agents, not lethal ones. He said other weapon systems are more efficient at killing large numbers of people. What they are going for are biological agents that could be slipped in a country surreptitiously that could spread and cause chaos and disruption to society. So in that sense covid would seem to fit the bill.
The societal disruption was generated by our Deep State, not by China.
Well there are several different theories on this. One is China either accidently or intentionally released it, the other is that the US intentionally released it during the World Military games that US troops participated in that were held just outside Wuhan a few months prior to it being discovered. Ron Unz believes the second, that it was released by the US, and discusses the evidence for that. Like Israel was warned by US intelligence back in November of the year covid emerged, well before that information became public.
Then the fact that an early outbreak occured in Qom Iran where all the Mullahs lived, which would seem odd since that’s an otherwise isolated city. So Unz theorized Mossad intentionally spread it there.
You are too kind.
You left out “murderous”.
The government employee royalties should be paid directly back to taxpayers who fund their paychecks.
Fauci’s name is on some patents only because he’s head of the NIH, not because he personally had anything to do with discovering them, it was other NIH scientists. The NIH has received something like $2 billion over the years in royalties for vaccines they helped developed. But big pharma has managed to receive most of the financial benefits from this publicly funded research.
“$350 million in undisclosed royalties were paid”
Wait, royalties?!?
You mean their names were on some sort of patent that others used and had to pay for?
Or, were they some sort of garage band with an good agent?
What could NIH viral scientists get patented?

Gotta keep the gravy train rolling (💵💰). Can't have the peasants finding out about it.
(I bet there are many more stories like this one.)
