Amen to that!
Stand for what?
If the employee is not producing what his employer expects, they can fire him. Otherwise, who cares how many 'jobs' he has.
Self-inflicted.
The churches eagerly adopted all the restrictions and continued the insane mask policy months after even the government lifted the silly mandates.
All in the name of "keeping everybody safe."
I guess it's company policy. Some companies it's important. Usually I am on camera, but if I sneeze or something, I will take it off camera.
About a month ago, I cut my lip an hour before a meeting. That's unusual, but it wouldn't stop bleeding. I looked like a crime scene. I figured it was better to be off camera, than to be bleeding away. Would that bother you.
When I said 25 hours, I was more referring to onsite work. If I had 25 hours of Zoom meetings who knows. I think that's way too much wherever you are.
I care a great deal. I deal with proprietary IP, not just from my own company, but from subcontractors. If some douchebag employee is double-dipping and doesn’t disclose it, I’ve violated tons of ISO clauses, subjecting myself to liability. Also, it may violate local statute.
What don’t you understand?
I can understand the need to occasionally go off-camera, but in general, if you’re not on camera, you’re not building face-time with your colleagues. If you’re not even speaking during the entire meeting, nor texting, then I suspect you’re actually at the grocery store. You’re most definitely not contributing to the meeting, and therefore adding no value and are, IMHO, ripe for status review.
Here is my concern... From the article:
“Ian probably got inside scoop that this is coming and left.”
If that speculation is true, it means that the EVP was told confidential executive stategy plans and acted on it personally, thereby exposing it prematurely to the workforce. That means he was never really executive material.
To me, it's the same mentality as the SCOTUS leaker who found out confidential information and took it upon himself to expose it to everyone for personal reasons.

They didn’t drive you out, Ian. You decided you’d rather stay home.
Dude needs more white privilege. Anyway, there is probably a good reason that they want him at the office.
Also, Why isn’t he wearing a mask in that picture?/s
I recently heard a podcast in which a top sleep expert was talking. He had a patient that told me she had trouble at work, but if she could get in to work by 11:00 AM and stay until 7:00 PM she'd be in. The sleep expert asking if he could call her boss, and she said yes. He asked the boss, if they could do an experiment, with her working from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The boss said, it doesn't really matter, because he was going to fire her soon anyway. The expert convinced him to try it for the week anyway, and the two would talk the next week.
When the sleep expert called the boss again, the later said he was no longer going to fire the woman, and asked if the sleep expert could work with two of his other employees.
[I realize that certain jobs require specific hours, but many don't]
Would you be open to your employees shifting their hours around to a schedule that most meshes with their natural circadian rhythm? (Assuming it falls within the band that is necessary for their work)
In fairness, a lot of churches didn’t have a church. I think courts even ruled against churches in some cases.
If you’re asking if I’d accept a local working from 11 AM - 7 PM? No chance. However, I have plenty of remote workers, and they are free to jigger their schedules to sync with our main development office.
I would absolutely not be in favor of letting local employees work those hours. My customers don’t work those hours, so neither should my staff. I don’t do it myself—in fact, I basically work 24/7.
With his salary, 401k, investments, bonuses, etc; he probably has FU money. The company will probably wind up hiring him as an independent contractor at a much increased total cost. He can also do contract work for other high tech companies.
What a puss...
hope his future is not so bright.
I say, don’t quit, make them fire you. This guy can name the position he wants at most any non-woke company he desires. Plus, it will play better at the class action lawsuit later.
Yep, I was fired for not getting a booster and am contracting for about 50% more than I was getting paid. It really helps when you’re the one who was keeping things working.
What the hell is a Doctorate in ‘Machine Learning’ ?
Same as calling Jill “Doctor”Biden.
I disagree.
This guy has some impressive academic and job credentials.
Dr Jill got her degree from a univ that has a school of public policy named for her husband.
THE RING OF THE FIRED???
While I won't speak about your own job, if you being concerned about seeing your employees' faces is that critical, I would suggest that the actual work they do isn't terribly important.
Most work is measured by the quality and quantity of its output; where the person is actually working shouldn't be the most important item on the list.
I think the biggest push to get people back in the office has far more to do with keeping small businesses afloat (your local dry cleaner, for example) than any need to have the person back in a cube. But in any event, there's no putting this genie back in the bottle; there are plenty of employers offering WFH and this will be addressed the traditional American way: we'll vote with our feet.
