China has conducted a series of combat drills in the seas around Taiwan in a demonstration of its military might, apparently warning foreign allies that it has the ability to completely encircle the island.
The exercise, carried out to the east and southwest of the self-governed island which Beijing regards as a rogue province, involved the Liaoning aircraft carrier and seven escort vessels, which were spotted last week crossing the Miyako Strait and entering the Pacific Ocean.

It’s easy to “encircle” something when no one there is shooting at you. I don’t think it would work quite that well if real shooting was involved.
Taiwan has elements of the following: Long Range Anti-Ship Missile
LRASM is a long range, precision-guided anti-ship missile leveraging off of the successful JASSM-ER heritage, and is designed to meet the needs of U.S. Navy and Air Force warfighters. Armed with a penetrator and blast fragmentation warhead, LRASM employs precision routing and guidance, day or night in all weather conditions. The missile employs a multi-modal sensor suite, weapon data link, and enhanced digital anti-jam Global Positioning System to detect and destroy specific targets within a group of numerous ships at sea.
Lockheed Martin is currently executing the Accelerated Acquisition contract for the LRASM Deployment Office, further maturing technologies delivered as an early operational capability for the U.S. Air Force B-1B and U.S. Navy F/A-18E/F.
We are also investing in a surface-launch variant to be used by the VLS, currently in the fleet.
LRASM brings additional, advanced long-range sea and land strike capabilities to the 5thGeneration F-35 fleet.
I am of the opinion that Taiwan needs to be producing and stock piling both anti-ship and anti-aircraft missles.
I suspect that the entire island of Taiwan is honeycombed by tunnels and chambers storing many such, and much else besides.
They know exactly what is coming, and have had fifty-plus years to prepare.
Taking Taiwan would make Okinawa look like child's play by comparison.
If China does strike, I can’t wait to see all the U.S. companies dump all their products.
They won't. Instead you'll get headlines like "Taiwan is Communist Now - And That's a Good Thing!" or "Five Things You Need To Know About the Chinese Liberation of Taiwan".
those big ship ships the chinese are floating around taiwan are sitting ducks for some of the weapons systems that ukraine is putting on display in the black sea.
They encircled Taiwan with 8 ships, 7 of which were escort vehicles?
I blame the likes of Lindsey Graham showing up there with his chest puffed out making a show of how important he is.
But if some people insist!
Mother Taiwan isn't going to roll over and spread her legs.
It may get raped anyway, but it's blood won't be the only
blood spilled.
Then China can be real proud of being seen as the world's
pariah rapist (AGAIN!).
Taiwan is not, a part of China. It hasn't been since 1895.
If China's thinking on this is valid, then it's time to
break up China and return the land it stole a lot more
recently than 1895.
How about it China. Want to give up Tibet1950?
Yeah, I hear ya.
The Peoples Liberation Army is more of a mess than the Russian military.
It’s not an military entity in the normal sense that a nation’s military would be.
It is in reality the enforcement arm of The Chinese Communist Party.
Why would China risk one of their rare carriers on Taiwan? It’s 130 miles across the straight, they could easily run aircraft operations from the mainland. Mayyybe drop it far on the ocean side, but to be out of range of land based missiles, would put their carrier pretty far from land support. Easy sub pickings.
