It’s an inherent problem with government. It’s intrinsic. There will always be someone who imagines that power in the hands of the “right people” is automatically beneficial, yet historic counter-examples are so common that we have expressions for it: “Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely,” or “the road to hell is paved with good intentions,” or “for every problem in human affairs, there is always a solution - simple, neat, and wrong.”
A reasonable heuristic to follow is to maintain skepticism towards any proposal to expand government in order to solve a problem, no matter how wonderful it may seem. People who ridicule those skeptics should be considered would-be tyrants, no matter wonderful they imagine themselves.
