The Abortion Decision

Decision: a conclusion or resolution reached after consideration. Origin: late Middle English (‘bring to a settlement’): from French décider, from Latin decidere ‘determine’, from de- ‘off’’ + caedere ‘cut’. Webster’s.

In a sense, important decisions frequently cut-off options and at times, even life itself.

One important issue as the 2022 American election approaches is the Solomon’s wisdom-requiring topic of abortion. The political, psychological, psycho-social, and spiritual domains are as consequential as the legal conundrums surrounding Roe v Wade.

Many contemporary independent, educated, and mindful women say, “It is my body and I decide what to do with it, my pregnancy, and my healthcare, period!”

In a basic legal and medical ethics sense of course, they are correct. Women in America have genuinely won the long battle against their early oppressed days as a man’s chattel. They have fought and triumphed to gain unquestioned potential legal equality and political power. America’s first female vice president Harris is a good example. No male or female can undo this evolved and evolving political reality in America.

But a woman’s choice to share her body with a man for pleasure, love, procreation, marriage, or all four, brings other complex issues into focus when a pregnancy occurs. Most ideally, a pregnancy involving a loving bond of shared intimacy between life-partners results in shared pleasure, responsibility, and two biological contributions, particularly two sets of DNA.

To Hell with the nuances...

Some humans respect nascent life, others are scum. The female factor is irrelevant.

I think the stats show that a minority of women have the majority of abortions. There’s a problem there that isn’t related to abortion. The Left doesn’t want to tell them, look, you have to either cut down on your activities or use protection. Because, well, her body her choice, right? Essentially, the Left believes, perhaps correctly, that these women are too stupid to use protection. Or the Left gains their support on candidates by giving them the right to an abortion. In game theory, if you change the rules people change their behavior. If we change the rules to take away the option of an abortion, you’ll find that the need for abortions largely goes away.

In an example of how this works, Tallahassee set up a study at a couple of intersections and decided that if they set up cameras and issued tickets for people running lights, they’d make x millions. They set up the cameras and after an initial period they made no money because people knew the cameras were there and stopped running the lights. (There was a dramatic increase in rear end accidents and the city eventually removed the cameras.)

The reference to “Solomon’s wisdom” is ironic. Solomon had no intention of killing the baby in question. The woman who agreed to have the child cut in half to spurn her rival is clearly shown to be no mother at all. The true mother loved her baby enough that she would give him up rather than see him die. His aim was solely to demonstrate the true mother.
