MANILA (Reuters) -The Philippine police and military said on Sunday they were on high alert as last-minute preparations continued for the country's general election, even as the overall situation remained "relatively peaceful".
Filipinos vote on Monday to choose President Rodrigo Duterte's successor, a vice president, 12 senators, hundreds of congressmen and thousands of governors, mayors and provincial and city councillors.
The presidential race is a rematch between Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., the son and namesake of the country's late dictator, and Leni Robredo, the human rights lawyer who narrowly beat him in the 2016 vice presidential contest.
Three months of divisive campaigning ended on Saturday, with Marcos and Robredo making final bids to sway undecided voters with patriotic, upbeat messages.
Duterte did not endorse a presidential candidate, but his party backs frontrunners Marcos and his running mate, Duterte's daughter Sara Duterte-Carpio.

Marcos has teamed up with current President Duterte's daughter, Sara Duterte-Carpio. Her support in the south - historically a weak spot for the Marcos family - could be a game-changer. While her father has not endorsed Marcos, or any other candidate, he is almost certain to absorb some of the outgoing president's support.
They do not say if dad endorsed his daughter.

Maybe voters ought to have an examination before voting, to test what they actually know about the candidates and ignorant voters not allowed to vote. LOL I guess here that would leave out half the U.S. electorate. LOL

My Filipina sister in law is a Robredo backer. For 6 years, she (THE VP) was the thorn in the side of president Duterte, the outgoing president because VP’s are elected separately regardless of party.
and yeah, vote cheating is more rampant than a Chicago election.

My Filipina sister in law is a Robredo backer and so’s my in-laws in the RP. Just like Bush, Clinton they have a Duterte as VP and already scripted after Marcos steps down which doesnt bode well.
