Pope Francis Says NATO Started War in Ukraine by ‘Barking at Putin’s Door’

ROME—Since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Pope Francis has floated the idea that he wants to take a trip to Kyiv to try to broker a ceasefire. But now he says he would prefer to go to Moscow to try to talk some sense into Vladimir Putin, who he has not outwardly condemned in the now nearly three-month-old war and only did so lightly in a lengthy interview with an Italian newspaper.

“I feel that before going to Kyiv, I must go to Moscow,” he told Corriere Della Sera in an interview that ran Tuesday. But the meeting would not exactly be to condemn Putin, based on what he told the paper. He said that the real “scandal” of Putin’s war is “NATO barking at Russia’s door,” which he said caused the Kremlin to “react badly and unleash the conflict.”

Never mind that the 85-year-old pontiff is unable to walk after tearing a ligament in his knee (for which he says he will soon have surgery), or that Putin won’t even answer his calls.

Francis repeated comments he has made in general audiences and in other interviews that the war is nothing more than a giant opportunity for a “trade in arms” and that it is still ongoing because of the constant shuttling of weapons to Ukraine. He has spoken twice by phone to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but mostly to urge him not to fight back. He also went to the Russian embassy to the Holy See days after the invasion began to “register his concerns” about what was happening.

Sounds like something a person might say if they were trying to get Putin to answer their phone calls. He might even throw in a few kudos to the wonderful spiritual tapestry of Russia blah blah. Then he gets an invite, a photo op, and can say he tried to prevent WW-III which is maybe what any reasonable onlooker would expect a Pope to be doing.

Much can be said about today’s Pope. At least he has some --> he has zero common sense. Outside of the western media’s ---> Obambam weakness projections causing constant war, war, PutinPuffing cheerleading ,the other half ( and more) of the world, agrees with his assessment---->thinks this guy is an absolute buffoon.

For the Ukie war --->Obambam betrayal cheerleaders, anything Senile Joe --->Putin supports is corrupted, dirty, and destroys America, one piece at a time. By design? Hell yes.

Or ignorance?
Possibly, but they have long since turned to blind ignorance and refuse to reason. Hence they are being treated as trolls.

Run from anything the corrupted, senileick evil old man [Putin] supports. Get Nuclear NonProliferation RIGHT.

Makes ya wonder what Pootypoot has on him....

Well, not really. He’s just blinded by his own liberation theology politics.

There was a time towards the end of WW2 that all attempts at removing Hitler were stopped by the Allies because he was doing so much damage to Germany all by himself.

This is one of those times with this stupid pope. Let him cause all that damage. Napoleon said “never interrupt your enemy when he’s making a mistake”.

The 1994 Budapest Accession to the United Nations Nuclear NonProliferation Treaty was not a NATO deal. Russia signed assurances of borders/sovereignty in exchange for nukes. Russia has violated that agreement, twice.

By INVADING.

Initiating the violence is always just plain wrong.

“You don’t think they were a major factor in Pearl Harbor? Might want to read up on that.”

The embargoes were a factor, but just look at a map. Japan wanted the natural resources of the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia). What sits between Japan and the DEI?—the Philippines. So they had to take us out of the Philippines to protect their supply lines. The Philippines were what they were after and to get them, they had to neutralize our fleet at Pearl Harbor. Both were attacked the same day, if not at exactly the same time.

I fear this will become pretext to a wider conflict.
***Then Russia should never have invaded. Duhh.

Yup, a little bit like when China went up against Vietnam in 1979. They went home with a bloody nose and got to work, now they have a more formidable [but untested] military.

We seem to feel we have the right to dictate what happens in the hemisphere, but are outraged when Russia protects it’s border.
***Russia SIGNED an agreement towards borders & sovereignty for Ukraine, in exchange for nukes. Your position is complete bullsnot because Russia INVADED. If it’s okay to invade to protect your borders then we should be invading Mexico and Siberia right away. After all, there’s a hundred NAZIs in Idaho that Russia might decide to invade us over.

Ukraine was the last straw, so Putin had no choice but to invade.
***Don’t forget that in 2012 oil & gas reserves were being explored by Exxon and western oil companies. This war is about oil & gas reserves. The last time we had an oppressive regime invade their neighbor over oil & gas, an international coalition kicked his ass back to Iraq.

Why Russia wants to invade Ukraine

https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/4050958/posts

The Russians weren’t even interested in eastern Ukraine until oil was found there. Their interest is simply in raping that country. Russia gets 60% of its revenues from oil exports. Europe gets 40% of their oil from Russia.

In 2012 massive oil and gas reserves were found in Crimea. Crimea signed a $10 billion exploration contracts with Shell and Chevron to develop the new found oil and gas fields. These oil and gas products would compete in Europe with Russia’s oil and gas, reducing Russia’s oil revenues, which we recall amount to 60% of their total GDP. Russia annexed Crimea in 2014, cancelling the contracts with Shell and Chevron.

But Ukraine still had massive reserves in, you guessed it, Donetsk and Luhansk, and other areas East of the Dnieper River. In 2019, Energy Secretary Rick Perry visited Ukraine, and soon after Ukraine awarded exploration contracts to a consortium of U.S. oil companies. Again, these oil reserves would compete in Europe with Russian oil, so Putin is invading Ukraine to shut down this latest attempt to extract Ukrainian oil and sell it in competition with Russian oil.

This explanation makes more sense to me than the “Putin feels threatened by NATO expansion” excuses for the invasion.

If the Ukes allow some small region in the west to be its own republic, but the OIL belongs to Ukraine, do ya think Pootypoot would allow that? Nope.

Bay of pigs, blockade, Grenada
***Bay of Pigs and Grenada were both good examples of invasions aimed at taking over the country. How do ya figure otherwise?

I don’t agree with the methods. Putin is a thug. But, there was provocation.
***Bullsnot. He’s after their oil/gas/ports. It’s just an excuse. Otherwise Putin woulda invaded 20 years ago with other NATO applicants.

What is desperately
Needed here is some strong international figure to try to broker an end to this.
***That is exactly the sort of reasoning that will lead to the antichrist coming to power.
