Republicans hold a narrow edge over Democrats on the generic ballot test, 49% to 42% among registered voters, a slight improvement for Republicans compared with the poll conducted immediately before the ruling. On the economy -- the issue most likely to be a driving factor for voters this fall -- nearly half of adults (46%) in the latest poll say the Republican Party's positions are more aligned with their own, compared with 31% for the Democratic Party. About three-quarters say that which party controls Congress makes a real difference -- a figure that did not shift between the two polls -- with more Republicans saying so than Democrats (88% vs. 78%).

Expecting a 1:1 correlation is vastly overestimating the intelligence of the average voter.

7% is a narrow edge, but only when Republicans are ahead. Otherwise, it’s an insurmountable lead.

Gov. Abbott signed into law one of the most restrictive abortion bills in the country yet is still on track in every poll to beat Beto O'Rourke soundly.
GOP candidates just have to tread carefully. The MSM is going to plant landmines all over the field for them to step in. We don't need any Aikens or Mourdocks putting their foots in their mouths making stupid comments and blowing winnable seats.

the midterm wasn’t the point of the leak. threatening the justices to change their vote was the point.
Support for baby murder is much lower than the Rats think it is. All Republican candidates need to hammer home their opposition to abortion and what they personally plan to do about it.
CNN spinning the poll results as best they can.
Polls of registered voters lean Dem by a couple of percentage points vs likely voters. A 7% lead with registered voters would probably be at least a 9% lead with likely voters.
In a tossup election, Dems usually have a slight advantage on Generic Ballots by a few percentage points (states like CA and NY swing hard Dem and skew numbers). A 7 point lead for Republicans is probably a 10 point swing on a Generic Ballot from what you’d expect in tossup election.
Not good news for Dems in spite of CNN spin.

What about the rage to Elizabeth Warren on the warpath?
What about Chuck Schumer bellowing that the Republicans need to vote for abortion rights to be on the right side of history?
What about Whoopi Goldberg saying hands off her body?
To listen to the media you would swear this pending legal opinion will shift masses of support to the Democrats.

The reason you doubt CNN polls is because they always are biased in favor of the Dems. There is no reason to believe otherwise on this poll.
I would give +3 to R and -3 to D. That would be a reasonable estimate of the CNN bias.
If anything I think this would improve (R)’s chances... The left is showing how insane they are.
In my opinion, it’s obvious the economy/inflation is a higher priority for voters than abortion. People go grocery shopping and fill up their gas tank every week, which brings the reality of increasing prices to our constant attention.
It seems to me abortion supporters are already pretty politically active. They are very vocal, and are great at political fundraising with Emily’s List, and have very strong media support. I don’t know if there is a large volume of people still available to convert to being rabid abortion supporters.
To me, it seems the Democrat/media industrial complex are always upset, always screaming loudly with the volume turned all the way up to 11. At the moment it is abortion, before that it was Elon Musk, before that it was Tucker Carlson, before that it was “Don’t Say Gay”, before that it was Joe Rogan, before that it was January 6, before that it was Orange Man Bad, before that it was Black Lives Matter, before that it was the Kavanaugh confirmation hearings. (I may be leaving out a few “crises”).
I have had enough of the group that is always screaming at maximum volume. Perhaps others feel the same way.
The core issue here, or course, is voter enthusiasm. Most of us don’t expect voters to change sides after 50 years of abortion division.
The fear (for those who fear the vote) is that Democrats will be energized and more likely to get out and vote in the mid-terms.
I’m not worried. Abortion is a political campaign third rail. Touch it and you die. I think Democrats and Republicans both are too scared to talk about unrestricted abortion.
The current apparent Republican edge is about as good as a polling edge ever is.
