My concern is whether “Mehmet” is a nickname for “Mohammed”.

Pretty sure it’s the Turkish equivalent.

Hi.
In the fwiw department, go to the Bosporus straight at around 0100 hrs and yell from the bank, “Mehmet”, and “Mohammed!”
The cacophony of , “afendi, afendi” is deafening.
The entire strait lights up like a Christmas tree.

Not a nickname. Mehmet is Turkish for Mohammed.
