FFormer Secretary of State Mike Pompeo spoke Friday on the “national security concerns” he had about Republican Pennsylvania Senate candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz.
“[Dr. Oz] engaged in the Turkish political process. That raises, in my mind, lots of judgments about his priorities,” Pompeo said in a phone call to reporters. (RELATED: Dr. Oz’s Work For Turkish Airlines May Violate Federal Lobbying Law, Advocacy Group Claims)
Oz maintains Turkish citizenship and cast a ballot in the country’s 2018 presidential election, ABC News reported. He had previously said he has “never been politically involved in Turkey in any capacity.”
Pompeo, who is backing David McCormick, former U.S. under secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs and CEO of Bridgewater Associates, said his reservations with Oz were “separate and apart from politics.”
“These are pathetic and xenophobic attacks on Dr. Oz by David McCormick, who should be ashamed of himself. Now that he lost President Trump’s endorsement, he’s resorted to sad and desperate attacks that are no different than the tropes used against Catholics and Jews,” Brittany Yanick, an Oz campaign spokesperson, told the Daily Caller News Foundation in a statement.
“Dr. Oz has already said when elected to the Senate he would renounce his citizenship. There is no security issue whatsoever, and David McCormick knows that Dr. Oz has maintained his dual citizenship to make it easier to help care for his mother who has Alzheimer’s and lives there,” she said.
Mike Pompeo, on a call with reporters organized by the McCormick campaign, cited ABC News’ reporting: “[Dr. Oz] engaged in the Turkish political process. That raises, in my mind, lots of judgments about his priorities.”

Half a good call. China Dave is an establishment swamp BAD call.
As I have said before on FR, if Trump is the nominee, I will support him 100%.
On the other hand, he needs to spend less time on Meghan Markle and more time choosing candidates to support and picking persons surrounding him with more circumspection. He tends to go off the top of his head in these matters rather than take the time and thought to carefully evaluate them.
First, I think Oz is a charlatan and I oppose his campaign for the US Senate.
Second, it is a gross perversion of our system to take a commercial endorsement for a foreign company and then to make that into some dark, conspiratorial act on behalf of a country that we are are allied with and with whom we have friendly relations.
Trump has to pick the guy most likely to win and Penn is important. He cannot get in and have to deal with McConnell et al
They’re no better than ox. None of them. And they hate trump.
Oz is terrible. I’m sure he is the best bad candidate
"Dr. Oz has maintained his dual citizenship to make it easier to help care for his mother who has Alzheimer’s and lives there.”
So if he is elected to the Senate, suddenly his mother's Alzheimer's doesn't matter anymore?
Dude’s darn well going to have to pick a country of allegience before November 8, 2022 and never look back.
Trump has made many excellent endorsements, but he’s also made his share of clunkers. This one was a bad one.
Oz can piss up a rope.

I never understood what pissing up a rope would entail, or why an individual would mind doing it.
Nothing about this man inspires confidence, but sadly it looks like he’s likely going to be the nominee....
Yippee another fraud the GOP of PA will force on me...
I believe that any Pennsylvanian who took an honest look at OZ and Kathy Barnette would quickly reason that Kathy Barnette is far better qualified to represent Pennsylvania than a man who votes in Turkish elections.
I only know it’s a saying.
I don’t pretend to know the origin.
I typically just say GFY, but I’m trying to be more civil.
It’s quite the struggle...
