Mexican president slams US on tour of Central America

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador started a five-day tour to four Central American countries and Cuba on Thursday by lashing out at the U.S. government.

López Obrador criticized American officials sharply for being quick to send billions to Ukraine, while dragging their feet on development aid to Central America.

On his first stop in neighboring Guatemala, López Obrador demanded U.S. aid to stem the poverty and joblessness that sends tens of thousands of Guatemalans north to the U.S. border. The Mexican leader had been angered that the United States rebuffed his calls to help expand his tree-planting program to Central America.

“They are different things and they shouldn’t be compared categorically, but they have already approved $30 billion for the war in Ukraine, while we have been waiting since President Donald Trump, asking they donate $4 billion, and as of today, nothing, absolutely nothing,” López Obrador said.

The guy has a point. If we’re hellbent on flushing money down the drain to foreign countries, it might be a better idea to use that money in our own neighborhood - at least we have a chance of reducing illegal immigration from those countries if applied properly. Mind, it’s not a great chance, but it’s not like we’re getting anything out of the Ukraine monetary foreign aid either.

Maybe if Obrador played the piano with his wee-wee in three-inch leather heels while diddling a kiddie, The Joek’s puppeteers would sit up and take notice.

We’ve already taken in of a lot of the population from Central America, now, and they want more money?? What did the formation of the country of the U.S. by men who English have to do with Central America? Nothing. Try Spain. Over 500 years, and still worse off than ever.

Let’s send ALL Mexicans home. Maybe US troops not only on the border but maybe set up some safe areas for deported Mexicans.

Those countries have resources and the NAFTA certainly gave Mexico all sorts of opportunities to advance. Not our fault if they can’t get their acts together. Maybe a bit less corruption might help. But it’s basically not our problem.

Everyone around the world is going to try to blame just about everything on the rich countries of North America and Europe but hey, we gave at the office, as in western civilization basically. If you wanted to try a planet without those influences, maybe it could be arranged. Good luck, amigos.

Gay marriage is legal in Mexico. It is forbidden in Ukraine. As usual, you need to get your facts straight.

The guy has a point.

No, he does NOT have a point.

He has no "standing" when it comes to how the U.S. chooses to spend its tax dollars / foreign aid.

Regards,

Standing or no, he has a point. Blowing a bunch of money in Europe for nothing is unproductive.

Just because someone doesn’t have standing doesn’t mean they can’t comment or make a point.

To be fair (as much as I don’t want to...), AMLO is not saying *his* country, Mexico, should receive the American largesse but that Central American countries like Honduras, Guatemala, etc., should receive it. They didn’t get the benefits of NAFTA or subsequent deals.
