Former President George W. Bush called Ukraine leader Volodymyr Zelensky “the Winston Churchill of our time” after the two spoke in a videoconference Thursday morning.
Bush posted two images of the meeting on Instagram tagged with a location of the George W. Bush Presidential Center in Texas, showing the 43rd president smiling while seated at a conference table.
The chat came as Ukraine remains under siege by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invading forces.
“I was honored to spend a few minutes talking with President Zelenskyy – the Winston Churchill of our time – this morning,” Bush said in the post.
“I thanked the president for his leadership, his example and his commitment to liberty, and I saluted the courage of the Ukrainian people. President Zelensky assured me that they will not waiver in their fight against Putin’s barbarism and thuggery.”
Zelensky, who posted his own images of the videoconference on his website, said it was “a great honor” to meet Bush.

Bush was better than Gore and Kerry. Although his nation building exercises aren’t looking too good now. We should have taken the Taliban out and allow the Northern Alliance take over Afghanistan. With Iraq, same thing with Saddam but allow the Ba’athist government to maintain their hold over the government so we can get out quickly.

I agree 100%. And the sad irony is that Putin is playing Bush’s old role here. Bush II invaded Iraq using the flimsiest of reasons. Hundreds of thousands of people died miserable deaths or were maimed for life.
And now Putin is invading Ukraine for the flimsiest of reasons. I don’t think Putin has matched Bush’s body count, yet. But Putin’s war is still young.

According to some around here, Churchill was a natural born citizen because he had an American mother.
Curiously Congress appears to have not been aware of that as they bestowed “honorary” citizenship on him in the 1950’s.

Sir Winston Churchill had a long career of service to his King before becoming Prime Minister.
Zelensky danced around on the stage in lingerie and high heels, playing the piano with his Johnson before he became the President.

Neither Bush or Kerry “types” have anything to offer our country in 2022, let alone the next decade.

I lurked on Free Republic for 6 or 7 years before joining in 2009. I enjoyed the commentary from older more mature conservatives, many who are no longer with us.
However, I thought the Iraq war was stupid so I didn’t join until “rah rah war guy” cooled off.(The financial crisis got his attention)
I've been here a long time and don't recall ever hearing conservatives refer to themselves as 'cons'.
