It used to be. I stayed in a hotel on Lenox Road in Buckhead last weekend for a college reunion. I had not been to Atlanta in decades. "Diversity" has largely ruined Buckhead (as it does most things).

For a bit of historical accuracy the importation of slaves became illegal on January 1, 1808—the first year such a ban on importation of slaves was allowed under the Constitution. (So much for the “pro-slavery Founders”).

Most black Americans’ ancestors were brought here before American-grown cotton became a major cash crop. Slavery looked to be dying out naturally for economic reasons as much as moral ones, before the invention of the cotton gin, which changed everything.
