Russia is planning a military parade in the embattled city of Mariupol, Ukraine's intelligence service said on Wednesday.
The parade is set to be held in the south-eastern Ukrainian city on 9 May to coincide with Moscow's Victory Day Parade, which celebrates its victory over Nazi Germany in the Second World War.
Mariupol "will become the centre of celebrations", said the Ukrainian Military Intelligence (GUR) in a statement published on Telegram.

Audiences in Russia will also be shown footage of Mariupol rejoicing at having Russian troops in their city, it continued.

Bizarre
But, but American news media is telling me Ukraine is winning and kicking Russia’s ass day in, day out?
Wonder what it will look like with orcs goose stepping while dragging their knuckles, with their nice spiffy red “Z” armbands.
Ukrainians rushing to city to ambush them.
The Kremlin wants to show fellow Russians, and the world, that they (Russia) are winning in the conflict. Mariupol is a trophy/symbol of that victory, in that respect.
I guess that’s why the renewed advance (reportedly) on the Azovstal plant. There are 5 days left until the supposed parade, so I’d guess they want to get the plant as cleaned out as they can before the parade.
At the very least, make sure that the Ukraine forces in Azovstal cannot disrupt the parade.
Sounds like this event would be a great target of opportunity for a Ukrainian drone strike.
lol. Yeah, the “Ghost Of Kiev 2” will be flying over the parade in attack formation, I’m sure.
I’m not a fan of Putin. He’s not a good guy. But the conflict is what it is, not what people want it to be. That is, the facts on the ground are what they are at the moment.
Will Ukraine mount a strong counteroffensive in the future? I’m going to say “yes”, but that could be months away.
The longer the Russian troops are in the newly-occupied territories, the more entrenched they will become and the harder they will be to displace. Just as we saw when Russia annexed Crimea in 2014.
Yeah, I agree.
The parade would be a perfect target of opportunity for a drone hit.
Also, it could be a good time for the remaining forces in Asovstal to make a move to escape.
Target rich environment.
BOOM.... A couple of “Neptunes” would like that idea.
It helps that these are places in which there are vast majorities of ethnic Russians, wherein a good number of people are sick and tired of the thuggery of the Ukrainian regime the last 8 years. Many are genuinely happy for the stability and security Russian rule offers.
Having this parade in the middle of a war (or special military operation) seems cheesy to us, but remember May 9 commemorates 77 years since victory in the great patriotic war, something we in America will never know the likes of.
Putin’s hands are definitely not clean, but we’re definitely not getting the whole story from Western media on this war. As far as the Ukrainian Armed Forces trying to rain on Putin’s parade, ain’t gonna happen. This is a professional military that plays for keeps.
The best chance for Ukraine to keep their country including Odessa, is to sue for peace. All our weapons are not going to turn the tide. It’s just not enough. This is a quagmire for the West, and it’s hurting us economically a lot more than it’s hurting Putin.
Two words...
DRONE STRIKES!
Better believe that the Uke’s are gathering all their drones to add to the march festivities.
target rich environment...
Comment formatting fail in the image comment I posted. Sorry about that, guys. I’ve got to brush up on my HTML.
Hope Ukraine has their drones ready
That’s a scary map if I’m rooting for Ukraine, although not all the Russian speakers are necessarily sympathetic to Russia (just like I’m not sympathetic to England). But that doesn’t leave much of a rump state for Zelensky if he doesn’t settle this quickly. Also much of Western Ukraine has historical ties to Poland, which may yet figure into all of this.
