In the past four years, most conservative sites that I visit have had their ability to allow a comments section come under attack from leftist activists. Some have been forced to entirely eliminate their comments section, others have had to restrict them - wholly or in part - to paying members, and a couple have switched to different providers.

I have no doubt this puts economic stress on these sites by reducing traffic and weakening the bond between the site and its readers.

I believe this has even had an impact on Fox News, which the left would like to drive out of existence. Due to pressure from leftist activists, they have suffered severe hits to their revenue, which is probably the main reason they have been so aggressively promoting their for-pay "Fox Nation" feature. Just the other day, the New York Times launched an attack on Tucker Carlson, portraying him as a hard-core racist, and this story was picked up by many newspapers nationwide. This is just the latest effort to drive away advertisers and jeopardize the long-tern stability of the network.
