i’d be amazed if the chinese don’t roll out 100,000+ drones (10x10 or bigger) to swarm the island and take it over

Taiwan is much more like Austria 1938 than it is like Poland 1939.

Nobody is getting killed over reunification of China.

but our politicians are addicted to these mega ship naming game

Our capital ships were always named after states.

Because aircraft carriers overlapped with battleships, which were named after states, carriers were traditionally named after famous victories (Saratoga, Lexington, etc) or ideals (Independence) or achievements (Kitty Hawk).

I have been repelled by the recent trend of naming them after dead politicians, and I wish it would end.

Not sure I believe this. Wasn’t China building a whole strategy of making the aircraft carriers of the U.S. worthless?

You can believe this; If the government so much as turns their head for a moment, those "high tech components" will be swapped out with inferior crap and said components will be sold on the black market.

Just like Russia... For example, in the Ukraine: tank ablative armor was shown to have been filled with cardboard on destroyed tanks. The components were stolen. Likely sold on the black market as well.

Interesting thread. Modern carriers with human pilots (let alone drones) have not been tested in a major conflict in how many decades? I wonder if drones (maybe armed with nukes) launched from submarines makes sense.

Which is what I have argued for years. On the other hand, don’t know how much we can gain from the accidental fire on board a World War II vessel, which subsequently sank on its own.

The myths emerging from this war are astounding.

Nah, our guys kick ass so hard that people like Putin still have nightmares.

The story below is a lie. The US wiped out and entire Russian Armored Division. President Trump gave the Russians a chance and asked them if the troops were theirs. The Russians vehemently denied it and claimed they were independent mercenaries.

President Trump gave the word. The entire division was annihilated except for a few survivors. It was said the Russians, realizing their idiocy, tried to get the US to stop, but it was already too late. A few of our guys basically wiped them out. Boom, boom, boom, buh-bye, Boris...

Russia never tried anything like that again while President Trump was in office.

And it look a fecal POS Pedophile Fraud like PedoJoe Bidet to make them feel like they could chance military aggression again. And even with the scumbag demoncraps in power, Russia is still bleeding to death and may never recover.

Scores of Russian mercenaries reportedly killed by US airstrikes in Syria

There are “boats” and there are targets in and on the ocean.

A carrier is a formidable mobile force projector against an enemy without sophisticated defenses. Against a sophisticated defense force it is dead meat.

It does have a purpose but not against equal high tech. It will die as the enemies will die also.

The US wiped out and entire Russian Armored Division.

Not a division. Not even a brigade. Maybe a battalion. Still, a total wipeout.

That’s how it seems to me. I’m thinking a carrier’s true defense is in the threat of huge consequences if you dare to sink it. That is, taking out a carrier might open the door to a level of reprisal that hadn’t been on the table previously. If you don’t want to escalate to that level, then you leave the carrier alone. Of course if things have already escalated to that level, then it seems like the carrier would be an easy target in the age of guided missiles.

I’m former Navy and always felt like carriers were just a big target for a few fast cruise missiles.

The question is ‘Can aircraft carriers be protected’ in a time of drones and shore to ship missiles? And the answer is ‘no’...

So, what’s the alternative?

Our side will come up with assigning ‘safe spaces’ to the people who dare to think the unthinkable ... And Austin and Milley will come up with big spending projects to continue bankrupting the country with weapons for others...

Xi will do better.

Analysis: Xi’s confidence in aircraft carriers shaken after Moskva sinking. The US Carriers are obsolete as well.

We should have stopped making Aircraft Carriers 20 years ago but our politicians are addicted to these mega ship naming game.

We should build 20 drone carriers for the price of one aircraft carrier.

The Chinese are now reviewing the possibility that their navy’s operations will be more vulnerable to Taiwanese anti-shipping measures than previously thought.
***I think their strategy rests on running a civilian mass internal migration sampan navy. After all, even America considers Taiwan to be part of China.

From my home page

https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3979585/posts

There are some updated conversations regarding the sampan civilian navy internal migration approach.

https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3979585/posts

https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/4002096/posts?page=58#58

The chinese will send a sampan navy with 10million “internal migration” civilians armed with CNN uplinks, cameras, and bullhorns. When they get mowed down by our side, the resulting negative PR will be amplified by the chinese knocking out 2 of our aircraft carriers in the blockade with their hypersonic ICBM thermally guided antiship missiles.
America will luze stomach for the fight over what it already calls an internal province of China. Taiwan has never declared independence.
About a third of civilians in Taiwan are ethnic Chinese and maybe only half of them have loyalties and fifth column tendencies towards communist China. They have hundreds of thousands of cargo ships they can fill with civilians armed with cameras, CNN uplinks, and bullhorns.
The resultant slaughter will be live on CNN and the PR backlash will be enough to let China walk right back into their own internal (never did declare independence) province. If we blockade them, they’ll lob thermal-capable antiship ICBM missiles at our aircraft carriers and CNN will record them sinking to the bottom of the sea with the resultant nuclear plume.
America will luze stomach for the fight after luzing a couple $Trillion in carriers and tens of thousands of men in one afternoon, all seen on CNN, with our recourse being... to slaughter civilians. China has all the cards, they just have to lay them down on the table at this point.
And when it’s all over but the shouting, the RINOs and GOPes and democraps will be handwringing, hoping for a quick way to order chinese chips & electronics from Amazon. The chinese want the continued business of globalists so it’ll all be “can’t we just get along” and “water under the bridge” as soon as China is in charge and chips are shipping.

Exactly with distributed piloting and control over the entire fleet. I actually avoid putting any of the pilots on any of the drone carriers and have the supplemented with remote pilots.
