NPR argues economy is 'sturdier than it looks' amid shrinking report

NPR painted a more optimistic perspective of the economic report released early Thursday morning.

The Commerce Department announced that the United States economy shrank by 1.4% in the first quarter of 2022. This clashed with previous expectations that the economy would expand by 1.1% and marked the worst quarter growth in two years since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

The economy is great when you live off the largess of taxpayers. As long as a taxpayer has two pennies to rub together the government can take one.

If prices are raised 10%, I will have my ability to buy over time reduced by about 10%.

Cheating people out of the value of their money shrinks the economy.

I listen to NPR in the car these days to hear the opposition.

I’ve noticed with the two channels in the Boston area, one of them or the other is ALWAYS talking about Ukraine. Sometimes both channels.

It’s becoming VERY obvious that the ‘interviews’ are actors reading scripts. You can tell this partly because even obscure questions are *immediately* followed by detailed answers, without pause. There is often appropriate and/or coordinated background sounds - for example, interviews on the ‘street’. Folks, street sounds or not, I’m picturing a converence room with a microphone paired to each chair.

Actors and actresses reading their scripts of course, have to be chosen for having the appropriate accents.

The narrative is ALWAYS in tune with the NPR agenda.

Never is there interviews or talk about God or religion. OTOH, they do often talk about ‘organized’ religion and the Pope, or broadcast snippets of him.

Definition of recession: 2 successive quarters where GDP shrinks.

I’m sure they will either fudge the GDP numbers even more, or they change the definition of recession.

Biden “talking” today was the best.
Essentially, he isn’t concerned about recession because the economy is growing.
The number was negative 1.4% and he said it’s growing...

Can we stop using corn to dilute our overpriced gas now?
I believe it’s a different “strain” of corn so let’s stop that.

“The economy is great when you live off the largess of taxpayers. As long as a taxpayer has two pennies to rub together the government can take one.”

Why not take both and then give back 1/4 of a penny in entitlements and services?

I went to the grocery store yesterday. I pretty much by the same stuff each time. Price on frozen 4 cheese Texas Toast was up 40 cents from 2 weeks ago. It has been $1.58 for years. But now is $1.98. Know sides jumped 12 cents from the old price of $1.00 a packet. Packets of instant mashed potatoes went from $1.00 to $1.26.
Other things like eggs and butter have jumped. So my personal “economy” is going to hell.

NPR is a PR organization for the DNC. They are not even hiding their bias these days. I wrote my Senator about this and ....crickets...Tom Cotton...We the people are being screwed at almost every level.

No kidding. My favorite breakfast burritos went from a buck to a buck 1.29 at Harris teeter and 1.39 at Publix in a month. Everything up a similar 25% plus. Even the asking prices on houses.

How do you get 5 different economic forecasts?

Ask 3 economists what they think is going to happen.

And political agendas to the predictors and you will need to provide a script for each of them. Eventually you will get 10 forecasts from 3 economists. That would fit the liberal definition of "increases in productivity".
