Not stupid.
A utility planner with half a brain would not build to a sole energy source, A, and specially not one connecting back to people you are very likely to have “issues” with, B.
But this was all set up by politicians, not engineers, so there we are.
Trust Russia for nothing ever. Its ok to buy stuff from them, but do not (effectively) plug your sacred pipes and wires to them.
So why single out Russia?
The shrill noise the eastern Euro-weasel makes when its foot gets caught in a trap.
Follow the terms and conditions of the contract? Are you speaking of the contract where the Russians had cash and gold on deposit in western banks and we seized it?
Suddenly the rules only matter when you want them to do what you say.
Typical DC/neocon thinking. When it favors us, you must follow the rules. When it is against us, we ignore the rules.
This is the EU’s Bartertown moment.
Its not Putin. This all was inevitable based on things that were set in stone almost a thousand years ago. There will always be a Putin, of some sort, in Russia, and there will always be “troubles” with Russia.
Because Russia is no ordinary country.
It is “special”, for rather grim historical reasons.
I agree. I cannot see why Russia would give away gas for free. That seems like how sane people behave to me. I cannot think of a business in town that will sell to me if I won’t pay, and if they are certain I am trying to accomplish their demise.
You should avoid opening a business.
At the end of the day, should the U. S. still remain a power
or should Russia be the only one between the two who should
survive?
No, they did not violate the INF treaty. We made that cheesy dishonest claim because we wanted out of it. The reason we wanted out is because it badly hamstrung us in developing and deploying the missiles we need to deploy around China.
So we made up and excuse to free us from it and backed out. But it was dishonest.
I do know they prefer bold overpowering leaders, whether good
or bad. They get behind them and shove. Over the years it
has cost them too, but here we are again.
No we didn’t.
Good grief bud. You’ve lost it.
Would you hand out huge amounts of natural gas to some country in Europe for free, when its costing you hundreds of millions of dollars to produce and ship the gas?
Why would Russia do that then?
Bulgaria is STUPID for expecting the Russians to effectively give them natural gas for free.

The same with giving the western world. Keep in mind Russia is in need of nothing, food, grain, oil, NG, energy, water, electricity, commodities, metals. Also, their debt is only 17 percent of GDP ( before war), the EU is broke and the US debt is over 100 percent GDP with $30 trillion plus unplayable debt.
Who is the “ wealthier “ nation?
He doesn’t support Globohomo. They have a flat 12% income tax, he is rebuilding churches the Bolsheviks destroyed, he arrested Pussy Riot for desecrating a church with a sex act on the altar. He blew up ISIS that we created. He is rebuilding Palmyra. He made homo recruiting in schools illegal. If a school had pedophile drag queen show up they would be arrested. Russia had a 19% debt to GDP ratio compared to us at 130%. And he warned America against going further down the path of socialism and he is making serious moves to back the Ruble with gold.
Europe? Hell, I wish he was in DC or maybe Austin.
That’s a silly question. There doesn’t need to be only one nation left. I like us being powerful and not running around the world causing wars. I have no particular problem with Russia either.
I think what I would prefer is that as it was prior to 1917, the US and Russia have a friendship and trade with each other. I know that sounds kinda boring, but yeah. Just be friends.
Thanks. Take care...
Yeah, we did and that’s exactly why we wanted out of the INF treaty. We need that class of missiles for our efforts to contain China.
I know it shocks you to think DC lied and made a bogus excuse for another political reason.
Your mother and I were hoping to wait until you were a little older to tell you that DC sometimes isn’t fully honest.
They shouldnt.
And the buyers who set up the infrastructure to connect to Russia were fools. I dont think the Poles are as dependent on gas as the Germans though, and can substitute to a large extent, especially as they have till next winter to do it.
Going forward the Russian nat gas market is ruined, at least for anything that involves pipelines and dependency.
Markets are far more important than suppliers, long term.
“So why single out Russia?”
For what? Changing the conditions of a contract? You bet. Bulgaria didn’t change them.
There is a possible way to work this out, though; and that would be to make payment as specified in the contract, in the currency set forth in the contract, but delivered to a neutral third party to be held in escrow. That third party could then convert the payment into rubles or whatever Russia is demanding on any given day, and make payment accordingly.
I don’t know if the contract prohibits such dealings; but, if it doesn’t, Russia can get paid in rubles and Bulgaria gets the gas.
