Sweden and Finland agree to both apply for NATO membership in May in defiance of Russian threats
Daily Mail ^ | 4.25.2022 | David Averre

Two newspapers - one Swedish, the other Finnish - have reported the governments of Sweden and Finland have agreed to submit NATO applications at the same time and that it will happen in the middle of next month.

Finnish newspaper Iltalehti said that the Swedish government has expressed a wish to Finland that they apply together in the week starting May 22 and Swedish government sources confirmed the information to Sweden's Expressen tabloid.

Russia's invasion of Ukraine has led to growing support in Sweden and Finland, a Russian neighbour, for joining NATO.

Though not members, both Nordic countries closely co-operate with NATO, allowing, among other things, the alliance's troops to carry out exercises on their soil.

Helsinki and Stockholm have also substantially intensified their bilateral defence co-operation in the past years, and there was talk earlier this month that the Nordic territories could both seek to join NATO in the coming months amid Russian aggression.

Sweden signalled its intention to apply for NATO membership on April 13, in a move which infuriated Moscow lawmakers.

Sources told Sweden's SVD newspaper about the move on the same day that fellow neutral neighbour Finland started its debate on joining NATO after days of speculation it would do so.

“Are you bracing for $8 gas?”

Russia should be. They’re having a bit of a supply chain problem right now and I suspect it’s going to get worse as the Ukies attack more and more soft targets.

The Ukies are smart and they’re waging an asymmetrical war against a Russia whose tactics are well suited to fighting World War Two.

Russia has a lot of tanks and a lot of ships that Ukraine wants to avoid in a direct fight. So they’re attacking your petrol supplies.

Awesome ships and tanks that run out of fuel will be easy targets for the Ukrainian 653rd Unarmored Tractor Division.

Gas in Russia is ~$2,35 and has been largely the same over the last several months.

” Nato on the other hand is a 100% defensive organization.” -— LOL. It’s nice that you believe that, but it hasn’t been true for decades. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NATO_bombing_of_Yugoslavia

“Which American payroll?”

He hasn’t been making much sense since his hero Vlad failed to conquer Ukraine in six days.

1999. That was Bill Clinton’s war. Those were the years America was fighting wars in defense of Islam. Meanwhile a few hundred miles away Islam was training to unleash on America.

After Carter, Reagan, Bush I, Clinton, Bush II and Obama, it seems Islam is stronger than it was before Carter. Bush II helped to destroy Iraq, which strengthened Iran. Iran, which was never punished for the 444 days they held our hostages. Libya fell, war in Syria... Thousands of Muslims streamed into the West. Before Bush II, I never saw women in hijab in my backwater Rust Belt city. Now, I do. We have hijabed extremists in Congress!

“Gas in Russia is ~$2,35”

With Russia’s per capita income hovering around $6500 per year then that’s still a chunk of change for the average Russian. Hopefully these attacks on petrol plants don’t hurt the average Russian too much.

And I still think

Keep working on that, you'll get it. It helps if you avoid the MSM and the entirety of the US government. They are lying to you.

Of course they don’t but you are insincere when saying you hope it won’t hurt.

No, I really don’t want to see working folks suffer.

I don’t mind seeing the gangsters being deprived of their superyachts but it sucks to think some poor schmuck is busting a hump to put petrol in an old Lada.

Been following the story of the superyacht Amadea which is owned by Suleiman Kerimov.

That thing takes 392,000 liters of fuel. That costs more than $500,000 to fill that up! And Russian families have to get by on $6500 A YEAR.

Kind of bracing to put this all together.

Do you know that Russia and the US rate at similar numbers per Gini?

The GDP PPP per capita is ~$30,000 in Russia FYI. A guy making $1,600 a month in Moscow has it better than the guy making $70k a year in Chicago BY FAR.

“The Gini coefficient is a single number that demonstrates a degree of inequality in a distribution of income/wealth. It is used to estimate how far a country’s wealth or income distribution deviates from a totally equal distribution.

In terms of income-ordered population percentiles, the Gini coefficient is the cumulative shortfall from equal share of the total income up to each percentile. That summed shortfall is then divided by the value it would have in the case of complete equality.”

I learned something new today! Thanks for sharing that!

The guy in Moscow making $1600 a month has it better than EVERYONE who has to live in the cesspool of Chicago!

I’ve been to both places and Moscow is definitely the better of the two. Besides, no one in Chicago makes a decent blini.

It makes sense to mention that everybody is able to make $1,600 in Moscow. Good luck trying to make $70k in Chicago.

“The West will not lift a single finger to help Russia fight off China.”
I agree with a lot of what you say but I think you might be wrong about that.
From a purely cynical point of view, why wouldn’t we help Russia fight the Chinese?
