WASHINGTON, April 25 (Reuters) - Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives welcomed reports that Twitter Inc (TWTR.N) is poised to agree to a sale to Elon Musk and called on the Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) chief executive to return former President Donald Trump to Twitter.
"Hey, @elonmusk it's a great week to free @realDonaldTrump," tweeted the House Republican Conference, which currently represents 209 lawmakers.
But a watchdog group, Media Matters for America, warned against exactly what some Republicans cheered.
"There is still time for Twitter’s board to prevent some of the worst harms. Any negotiations to sell Twitter to Musk must include clear enforceable mechanisms to uphold and maintain existing community standards, including the removal of those who violate those standards," said Angelo Carusone, president of the nonprofit group.
U.S. Representative Jim Jordan, a member of the Freedom Caucus of conservative House Republicans, said he hoped the deal would go through.
"I think this deal looks like it's good for the shareholders; second, it's good for free speech, it's good for the First Amendment," Jordan said in an interview with Fox News.
Jordan and other Republicans have been critical of Twitter for banning Trump and other notable conservatives.
U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, whose personal account was permanently banned from Twitter for tweets that repeatedly violated the social media's misinformation policy on COVID-19, said on her congressional Twitter feed, "I should get my personal Twitter account restored."
Twitter banned Trump's account due to the risk of further violence after the U.S. Capitol was stormed on Jan. 6, 2021.

Musk is going to bring back The Donald because that’s good for business and good for his investment.
And I doubt we’ll see too many blue checkmarks leaving Twitter over this because those people don’t have any scruples or values to begin with.
He could make truth social primary for him and probably have an app that simply retransmits anything he posts there to a corresponding twitter account and other social media...greater reach, an in effect, greater advertisement for his own social media platform.

Twitter violating free speech rights, banned a sitting and former President Trump’s account, after making the absurd claim without evidence, it was due to the risk of further violence after the U.S. Capitol was stormed (one time) on Jan. 6, 2021 which may have been facilitated by the Democrats by the way and after no Democrat was ever banned after the violence of the summer of Black Lives Matter.

I tried a couple weeks go when Musk first bought but they wouldn’t let me use TwitterIsElonsBitch for my new account.
Trump should refuse to come back. He’s got his own platform now and since “mean tweets” were why a lot of women were turned off from him, he should be advised to tone down the rhetoric, particularly the mild profanity.
My cat has an account @CatsOfTwitter. She may give it up and let me do politics after the Musk deal is done. However, I went to political sites and was utterly amazed and disgusted at the vitriol hurled at DeSantis. The leftists won’t quit no matter who owns Twitter.
Trump should post only advertising for Truths that he post. I’m going to guess that Twitter uses a lot of cloud infrastructure. The infrastructure can also have rules of engagement and if Twitter doesn’t conform then it can be blocked.
