Biden signs order to protect old-growth forests from fire

President Joe Biden on Friday signed an executive order intended to help restore national forests devastated by wildfires, drought and blight, using an Earth Day visit to Seattle to press for more action on the environment.

Although Biden has struggled to make progress on his most ambitious climate goals, he drew a sharp contrast with his predecessor, former President Donald Trump, who unraveled the country's fight against global warming.

"We've reached the point where the crisis on the environment has become so obvious, with the notable exception of the former president, that we really have an opportunity to do things we couldn't have done two, five, ten years ago," Biden said.

Biden said he was staking his hopes on an up-and-coming generation.

"Every time I get a little down ... I just turn on the television or take a look at all the young people," he said. "This younger generation is not going to put up with all this stuff. No, they're not."

Biden detoured into his concerns about getting environmental legislation through Congress, focusing on opposition from Republicans that he described as part of "a MAGA party." He downplayed divisions among Democrats, saying there are only "two senators who occasionally don't vote with me," a glancing reference to Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona.

"My pen is ready," Biden said. "Get some of these bills to my desk."

After his speech against a backdrop of flowering trees in Seward Park, Biden sat down at a table to sign his executive order.

A bit of accidental drive-by reporting in this article and a direct slap at California. If all the new undergrowth was cleaned up wildfires would be greatly reduced and this is what is bing said...But in California, it's no no no...

"But former U.S. Forest Service Deputy Chief Jim Furnish said wildfire risks and climate change would be better addressed by removing smaller trees that can fuel uncontrolled blazes, while leaving mature trees in place."

That certain former president sure is living rent-free in a lot of otherwise vacant places.

We've known everything about these forests for years and years. We also know that debris on the floor fuels these fires....but no one is allowed to remove it.

His "edict" will do nothing. Just more paperwork.

Revive the CCC camps.

Remove dead trees, remove underbrush/dead ground plant matter, controlled burns.
Indians were aggressive land management people, and it worked.

“We’ve reached the point where the crisis on the environment has become so obvious, with the notable exception of the former president, that we really have an opportunity to do things we couldn’t have done two, five, ten years ago,” Biden said.

The “crisis” on the environment, is only “obvious” to liberals. To the rest of us, not so much.

We have an opportunity to do things now? Never let a crisis go to waste, Joe? Have his handlers read “Rules For Radicals” and heard Rahm Emmanuel say you never let a crisis go to waste?

This is really brazen on their part, in that, they create this crisis mentality about global warming, then having created a crisis, set it up so we can’t let this crisis go to waste.

Poor land management, poor culling of underbrush, poor water management, and arsonists are the major factors that contribute to the fires. This bill does nothing for any of the infamous “root causes” that this atherosclerosic regime likes to talk about.

This is what has happened to Science.

A small kernel of fact amid a flood of propaganda.

So much for the Enlightenment.

They know what to do but they won’t.
If you fix the problem, there’s nothing to complain about and no money to siphon off from the government.
