We Americans have forgotten what it's like to fight a near-peer enemy, or even an antiquated foe without total air dominance. Even victors in peer-level war sustain what we now consider horrendous losses. Tanks and helicopters are very powerful weapons but they are also expendable - which is why there are so many of them. As of today, Russia's MOD claims to have destroyed 110 Ukrainian helicopters in addition to 141 UKR fixed wing aircraft and 2,479 UKR tanks and other armored vehicles. We have no way of verifying those numbers, but with such a mismatch in resources and unimpeded logistics, the Russians have time on their side and less incentive to greatly exagerrate. Time is only going to prolong and worsen the slaughter.

You are reacting emotionally and not analytically.
We, the global public, need to look at all this as “open source intelligence”, which requires a broad based analytical approach. That is the proper human way to do this, not the animalistic “fight or flight” reaction to information.
Loss reports matter to the extent that it informs our judgment about changes in capabilities for either side in an ongoing conflict. Yes, we are to a large degree trying to predict the future, but that is what we are called upon to do. That is a major part of all human activity.
Engage with the data, do not simply reject it. Examine it in light of other information. Evaluate it for plausibility. See if it “fits” other information or a historical perspective. The fog of war can be clarified to an extent. There is a brain on top of your neck, use it.
