..........no, I haven’t forgotten that Israel has been a friend to the U.S. on occasion. But, being a former sailor myself, I still can’t stomach what Israel did that day and do not agree that to patriot’s it was justifiable in any way.
Your baseline assumption that Israel intended to attack an American ship is wrong. How many blue-on-blue incidents and blue-on-gray incidents do I need to point out?

The only people responsible are the criminals in the National Security Agency. Israel asked the Johnson Administration for a naval liaison in order to prevent issues like this. The Johnson administration refused, promising to keep American ships West of Cyprus (ie well out of the war zone.) The criminals int he NSA then sent the spy ship unescorted into a war zone without informing the warring parties. And the NSA has been blackmailing Americans about this ever since. There were Egyptian and Soviet spy ships in the area.

My ‘baseline assumption’ is not an “assumption”. This attack went on for hours. The pilots of the attacking aircraft were so close the sailors on the Liberty were waving at them. US Flags were flying. So, “intent” was absolutely there. Israel KNEW exactly who they were attacking and exactly what they were doing. Even their own high officers admitted that years/decades later.
