On a dusty road on the industrial outskirts of Calais, a small group of Iranian migrants in tents are taking in news of the UK’s Rwanda asylum plan.
The dozen men, mostly in their 20s and 30s, have spent months waiting for an opportunity to make the perilous crossing of the Channel to reach Britain. Some have already tried and failed.
But since the announcement that migrants who succeed will be met with a one-way ticket to Rwanda, they have changed their minds.
Standing beside a row of shabby, small shelters amid a hum from massive industrial units and passing lorries, Hamid Karimi, 34, sums it up: ‘I’m not going to the UK if afterwards I’m sent to Rwanda. I’m staying here. I’m not going to Rwanda.’

Good to see the Brits copy Australia’s policy on this. In Australia, if you manage to illegally come then you don’t get to stay in Australia, you’re off to Papua New Guinea or Nauru.

Nope, they’re Iranians and obviously have no intention of going to Rwanda. My question is what’s so bad about Europe, plenty of welfare states, starting with Sweden, that would welcome them with open arms.

I was thinking they’re Libyans. Or maybe, Iranians or Iraqis. Not too much in the news about them, lately. Al Qaeda was having a field day after Libya fell over 10 years ago, so who knows how many Al Qaida terrorists are migrating to Europe. A lot of the black slaves ran away to Europe the past 10 or so years, later.
I wonder how many are migrating to America?
Young, military-age males from Iran, Iraq, Syria.

All cultures and peoples are equal…
they should be deported back to wherever they came from.
They’re not white, so they don’t belong in Europe.
Dear migrants: Fix your own s**t hole countries instead of running away from them.

They really, really want to get to the UK because once they are there they have “made” it:
Free house off a local authority (I kid you not)
Free healthcare
Flexible labor force especially for low skilled workers. if they have a trade then they have struck gold.
English language / culture.
Various other benefits.
This is the reason why they make the perilous journey
