It finally hit me, today, what’s been so reprehensible about this guy — and so many of his fellow-travelers — all along: they are philosophical utilitarians; true believers in the immoral and unethical idea that “the ends justify the means,” and therefore any means they choose is sanctified by the supposed holiness of their goal: keep people from dying of COVID.
The nobility of that umbrella has been presumed to ennoble all manner of hideous means of advancing toward it, and the morality and ethics of these means have been set out of reach of all question by those implementing them, the “Karens” of broader society, and their fan-boi media propagandists. Should any get past this din, “cancel culture” has reliably done its number on any who exhibit the least hesitancy to acclaim the stunning beauty of The Emperor’s new clothes.
But all of this dynamic has its genesis in the fact that, by and large, the “deciders” of what is to be “our proper response” to the COVID outbreak are operating as philosophical utilitarians; and I would be remiss not to point out that this is a direct evolution of the descent of Western society into a post-Christian philosophical posture.
In Other Words, however unpleasant, We are reaping what we have sown.
BTTT!
Absolutely agree.
