The Biden administration is making it easier for refugees fleeing Russia's war on Ukraine to come to the United States from Europe while trying to shut down an informal route through northern Mexico that has emerged in recent weeks.
A program announced Thursday will streamline refugee applications for Ukrainians and others fleeing the fighting, but will no longer routinely grant entry to those who show up at the U.S.-Mexico border seeking asylum, as thousands have done since the invasion ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin began almost two months ago.
The U.S. says it expects to admit up to 100,000 refugees from Ukraine and about 15,000 have come since the Feb. 24 invasion, mostly through Mexico. Starting Monday, that route will no longer be an option except in extreme circumstances, officials said.

Ukrainian refugees with visas had to enter the US through Mexico. They could not fly directly to the US from any European country, nor fly from Mexico to US. They had to physically pass over the border.

Yeah I guess the government needs the facilities at the southern border to allow the future looters to come in.
Why should they come in at all? Aren’t they safe and culturally good in the EU?

Too damned typical. The border crossing at Tijuana was operating just fine. Churches and Ukrainian volunteers from as far away as Sacramento established a clearing camp at the border to help refugees. They provided food, blankets, tents and assistance to those who needed it. The camp was orderly, clean and well organized with people assigned numbers and given a ride to the border control point, none of which was at government expense. Naturally, the manure eaters of the Biden Administration had to EFF with it and will route people through Mexico City which is over 1,700 miles from Tijuana. Also they are forcing people to be vaccinated or denying entry. My curse on these sneering apparatchiks. Meanwhile all of the undocumented Hispanics can just walk across the line.
