Basic income is a government-funded policy that provides regular cash payments to citizens with no strings attached.
If approved, Austin's local government will partner with the California non-profit UpTogether to administer the program and analyze the results once the year-long trial run is complete.
"The evaluation will include analysis of survey and interview data, as well as additional case studies with participants seeking to make recommendations and measure impact in key areas such as economic mobility, social capital, and housing stability," the city council's agenda item says.

Bingo!
Ha! $1.18 million is what they think it will cost NOW. When they pass it, and thousands of grifters relocate to get their free money, then we’ll see how much it really costs.
“What will they do:
When there is no more money?
When there is no more shelter?
When there is no more food?”
Well, they’ll do what people throughout history have always done when that situation arises: they will mass together and try to take what they need by force.
Possibly unaccountable, unconstitutional (imo) CV19 relief money to help desperate, alleged election-stealing Democrats get reelected?
Insights welcome.
Patriots are reminded that they must vote twice this election year. Your first vote is to primary career RINO incumbents. Your second vote is to replace outgoing Democrats and RINOs with Trump-endorsed patriot candidates.
Again, insights welcome.
That’s a very interesting citation. I’m wondering how come the governor or some conservative organization hasn’t sued the Austin City Council for taking an illegal action that will do nothing to correct the problem and probably create more of it.
Here in Mexico, we will spread the word. Everyone will for sure be willing to sign up, especially since it is a Sanctuary City, and they won’t get exported. Sounds like a winner for us in Mexico! Can’t wait to cash in on the bonanza.
then he becomes a thief and steals from the rich-
Bum magnet
Who do they tax to get the money for this?
I thought this was Austin, Texas?
yup- i had a brain fart- don’t know why i said Cali- my reading comprehension is low today i guess-
I have lived 60 miles north of Austin for most of my life except for 20 years in the Houston area... In 1963 I attempted to find a job in Austin then later I had a “promotion” offer in Austin... For two different reasons neither happened thus the two best moves I never made...
Lyndon “Bane” Johnson was homegrown Texan; his political machine was massive. Texas has had a Democrat problem since the Civil War.
The evil LBJ produced the 1954 Amendment [501(c)3] - The New 30 Pieces of Silver - that greedy pastors took in exchange for their silence.
..you hit the nail on the head.....! dem mayors who firmly believe they are doing great things...! in this manner, but in reality are running residents OUT of their cities....that’s why we do NOT live in “Keep Austin Wierd!”...live out in one of the ‘burbs where life is GOOD!!!
“Austin City Council set to vote on $1.18 million guaranteed basic income plan”
WOW! That’s a lot! Where do i sign up?
Also known the San Francisco of Texas.
I’m old enough to remember the LBJ machine....and so did JFK.
If you know what I mean.
Oh, yeah...
My first education in District of Corruption skulduggery was the Warren Commission:
I was a pre-teen math/science nerd who studied ballistics tables for passing entertainment. The “Magic Bullet” did not appear in any the the tomes I perused.
My above education ended 30 years ago at Ruby Ridge: I have not trusted anyone in Federal government since Bill Barr defended pro bono Lon Horiuchi, and then organized a coalition of State A’s. G. to coerce Idaho State into dropping First Degree Homicide charges against that Federal gangster.
That is why I never fall for the “white hat” propaganda. (The latest example is the previously vaunted Admiral Mike Rogers, who just signed a document denouncing the breaking up of Big Tech, since that “private-sector” bastion was vital for public-sector use.)
Austin is seriously a little San Fransicko in the middle of Texas.
