Accustomed to relatively strict gun laws, New Yorkers watching mass shootings unfold across other parts of the country in recent years may have felt somewhat invincible to indiscriminate gun violence. April 12 was a wake-up call, when a gunman started shooting at passengers on a subway car in Brooklyn during a morning commute. Now, a landmark Supreme Court case that’s due for a ruling this summer could compound fears of more, similar gun violence in crowded city spaces.
The case, the most significant on the Second Amendment in 14 years, puts into jeopardy New York State’s tight restrictions on carrying guns in public. Based on the direction of justices’ questions during oral arguments last fall, it appears likely that the conservative court will strike them down as unconstitutional as early as June, forcing the state to drop public safety regulations, and possibly to start issuing concealed carry permits. While there’s no database that tracks gun crimes by concealed permit holders, more mass shootings do tend to occur in states with more relaxed gun laws, including permissive carry rights. The ruling could also have broader implications for other states’ gun regulations.

What planet is this person from?
The usual lie. There is no *national* database.
There are several state data bases.
Those show that concealed permit holders are exceptionally law abiding, much more so than police officers.
The left has no compunction about lying.
I bet the crowded space becomes much more civilized, actually
One cannot expect much truth from PMSNBC.
“What planet is this person from?”
He’s from that land of unicorns and rainbows called ‘New York City’. Not the real NYC, but the one that exists in the liberal bubble.

I found him living in a rather tony $953,000 apartment in Brooklyn, NY. So yes, he’s in the bubble.
Is this the end of the SAFE Act?
this is moronic...…
NYC has strict gun laws...…
yet, people are shot on the street damn near every day....
so.....keeping these strict gun laws ion place will solve the problem.....
what an idiot
—yep—biding formerly from Wisconsin , I’ve been curious about experience there , after the Scott Walker upgrade of the carry laws -
-have never seen one and suspect it doesn’t get any publicity from the Madison and Milwaukee rags because the experience would be exactly like Texas and Florida—
-that the permittees are among the most law abiding group that can be found—
NYC 2021: More than 1800 gunshot victims in 1500 incidents.
The author doesn’t know the news from his own city, or just lies.
Doubt it- seems it’s more about concealed carry than it is about restrictions to rifles that ny unconstitutionally passed
They *must* lie to survive. After a while, lying becomes natural and accepted.
Themleft are falsely arguing that repealing it will, cause major spike in crime. That is how they rammed through their safe act, claiming it was an emergency measure to quell mass shootings- it did not, but they will argue that it did, and since a negative can’t be proved, then theynwill, get awY with claiming it.
I seriousoy, doubt crime went down one bit after they restricted rifles to,7 shots and banned grips and other “weapons of war” looking parts, but they Wil. Claim that their measures caused the violence to “level off” and that violence “woild, have been worse if they hadn’t e acted the safe act”-
.iberals have an answer for everything- they ignore the facts though.
If the press could find one Completely unjustified Shooting, I E blatant murder such as a drive-by,, let alone some mass shooting by someone with a permit I’m sure that would be plastered all over the news.
Then, she ignores total illicit homicides to obsess over gun homicides. But, the person killed does not see that difference as crucial. They are still dead. If gun laws do not decrease total illicit homicides, they do not serve a useful purpose.
This is likely all beyond the world view of the author. She simply sees "guns are bad" and creates a narrative to reinforce that view.
WTF! I guess they just write this crap and do not have to actually report the news. They already know what is really happening in their dream world.
That town, and suburban towns like it,is where the editors and writers for the NY Times live. And apart from a Kennedy murdering a 15 year old girl with an expensive golf club they don't see violent crime in towns like that.
They can afford to consider the 2nd Amendment to be null and void.
