"And they're off," as the callers of horse races say, but in this case, it means the government will no longer enforce mask mandates on airplanes, trains, buses, subways and other forms of public transportation.
U.S. District Court Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle, a judge for the Middle District of Florida, said the rule exceeded the authority of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Transportation Security Agency. To complete the analogy, perhaps we can say that the government behaved like a horse's patootie.
Videos of airline passengers ripping off their masks and cheering appeared on websites as flight attendants made the announcement. The attendants, too, must feel relief as too many suffered abuse while telling passengers to wear masks or to wear them properly.
As people began to grow tired of what many believed to be this arbitrary and ineffective mandate, growing numbers of airline passengers (me included) took advantage of the option to lower their masks while drinking and eating the snacks airlines offer these days. Some prolonged their munching and sipping to extend the time they could remain unmasked. Did anyone believe that if the virus were on a plane, it would suspend infecting people while they ate and drank with their masks down?

Only a demoralized people could have tolerated so much.
“Some prolonged their munching and sipping to extend the time they could remain unmasked.”

Note the reference to “some” pulling this stunt.
It stands to reason that “all” who were opposed to the masking rule on principle, meaning, as both scientifically unnecessary AND as anathema to our common humanity under God, pulled this stunt every time they were capable of doing so, and for as long as they could possibly do it, including during the entire flight (or other means of conveyance during which eating was allowed).
Cal Thomas should admit to having pulled this stunt himself! Come on Cal!
Yes, it seems rather adolescent. Bend a rule as a protest. What drives parents or other authority figures more crazy than that?
But it can also be seen as driving a truck through a loophole, or forcing an exception to displace or entirely replace the rule.
The BEST was when the person, people, or entity in charge of enforcing the rule cracked, and said: “Replace the mask between bites or sips.” Every time this was uttered or promulgated as a “supplementary” rule to reinforce the primary rule, it showed without doubt to any sentient being that the Emperor had no clothes, and that rule forcing people to “Mask Up” in public places or on planes, trains, buses, Ubers and Lyfts was nithing but a farce, a power play undertaken for no other reason than to humiliate every human being in an entire population (with the nitabke exception of the elites, like Nancy Pelosi getting her hair done and BoJo partying it up at 10 Downing Street).
According to MSM polling, after the District Court ruling, 70% of Americans thought masking was a good idea. With passengers ripping off
their masks when allowed to, at least one of three conclusions may be drawn:
1. The polling did not focus on the air-traveling population.
2. The polls did not frame the question properly.
3. The MSM egregiously lied, made up their data, and spewed their usual toxin upon a gullible audience.
You decide.
Too many Americans, and people the world over, are stupid, ignorant, fearful, short-sighted morons.
My decision: 1, 2 and 3.
