Republicans call on Blinken to reopen Kyiv embassy

Two Senate Republicans are calling on Secretary of State Antony Blinken to reopen the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv as Russia appears to be shifting its military forces away from the capital city.

Sens. Jerry Moran (R-Kansas) and Steve Daines (D-Mont.) penned a letter, obtained by Politico, to Blinken on Wednesday urging him to “fully open” the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv, arguing that such a move would “enhance cooperation with a democratic partner” and “symbolically affirm” America’s commitment to Ukraine’s territory.

You don’t open embassies in war torn areas unless these two clowns want to go man the embassy themselves.

Idiots.

You don’t want to have a guy named Blinken when you are staring down your adversary.

We have not had a US Ambassador to Ukraine since 2019.

Other countries continue to staff their embassies in Ukraine.

Multiple countries recently announced plans to reopen embassies in Kyiv, including Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Austria and Turkey. The embassies of Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Lithuania have already opened their doors, as has the diplomatic office of the European Union. The U.S. needs to quickly follow suit, Republicans said.

As long as it is manned by uniparty criminals, I don’t care. I think it is a stupid mistake though. Why tell people to leave and then send them back unless it is over? It is nonsensical.

But is is like something the Biden crew would do. If it is careless and stupid, do it.

Bush League Republicans that are more concerned about the invasion of Ukraine than the invasion of the USA.

This is why many of us call the Republican Party the stupid party.

They don’t need opponents—they sabotage themselves at every turn.

I have served at embassies where there were ongoing hostilities, including rocket attacks. We evacuated families and non-essential personnel. It is always a risk, but it is part of the job of being a diplomat. Since WWII, more US ambassadors have been killed than generals and other flag officers.

Seems rather silly though. Anyway, our people are already there running things. None of this is on the up and up because it is a proxy war and supposedly the world population isn’t supposed to know that. LOL

An embassy would just get in the way.

Silly? You don't understand the function of an Embassy and the importance of having people on the ground to assess and address problems.

An Ambassador is the President's personal representative to the host government. The fact that we have not had one in Ukraine since 2019 says something about the bilateral relationship. Biden was/is probably fearful about the confirmation process and the questions that would be raised about Hunter and Burisma as well as Joe's interference in Ukrainian domestic affairs.

Oh I understand. You have to understand that what we all understood is no more under the WEF/NWO agenda.

A one world government won’t operate the old way. It is so obvious why we don’t have an Ambassador there.

All of that you say is very true. Our whole government operates like this now. I call it sneaky and much more corrupt than usual.

Especially the DAO, Defense Attache Office. They should have never left in the first place. I was in Africa during civil wars, landslides, violently contested elections and Ebola. The DAO never leaves, at least not supposed to. They sent the DAO out of Kiev first, before we could actually get the ground truth.

Embassies are platforms from which many government agencies operate. Only 25% of Americans assigned to our embassies are State Department personnel. All agencies abroad except operational commands are under the Ambassador.

I am sure many agencies are itching to get back into Ukraine. Biden and Blinken are the roadblocks.
