Why Mitch McConnell?
American Thinker.com ^ | April 19, 2022 | J. Robert Smith

If we’ve heard it once, we’ve heard it a million times: 80-year-old Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell is the indispensable man. McConnell’s indispensability, we’re told, stems from his skill shepherding Republican judicial nominees through the process and onto the federal bench. Alternatively, McConnell’s mastery of Senate rules keeps more than a few Democrats off the bench. This is practically lore among Republicans.

But McConnell’s prowess is overstated. As the saying goes, graveyards are full of indispensable men. Okay, give McConnell his due. He’s been an effective manager, advancing and opposing judicial nominations. But are we to believe that among McConnell’s 49 Senate Republican colleagues not one has the chops to lead on judicial nominations? If so, then Republicans better pray that McConnell is Methuselah’s clone.

McConnell is a one-trick pony, and in a Trumpian GOP, he’s increasingly -- as in daily -- an anachronism. He comes across as haughty. He’s more comfortable prowling the Senate cloakroom than pressing-the-flesh and making the case for real change… at a time when Americans sorely need authentic liberty-loving change.

McConnell’s stumping for Georgia GOP Senate nominees Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue in the January 2021 runoffs proved he has no feel for retail politics.

In the Peach State, McConnell made a point of congratulating Joe Biden on his November victory -- a victory in Georgia, no less, rife with “irregularities.” Trump-backing voters were in no mood to hear that. Loeffler, handpicked by Governor Brian Kemp, possessed poor political skills.

Yes, McConnell has been good on judges....but that is it.

Regardless of how effective someone is in office, they must exit at some point or a stench will begin to fester.

McConnell’s stench has been festering for decades.

Term limits would fix this.
Term limits have the support of Democrats and Republicans.

But we keep playing the “your team sucks” game instead of uniting on the issues we agree.

“Why Mitch McConnell?”
“But are we to believe that among McConnell’s 49 Senate Republican colleagues not one has the chops to lead on judicial nominations? “

The question is, does anyone else want the job?

Democrats want no part in splitting differences, even if differences could be split.

Neither do Republicans.

I’ve only heard of a few of these judges appointed under Trump ruling against Biden, and Kavanaugh and Barrett have been horrible.

Finally Mitch is getting the attention he has deserved for years. He and Ryan
sat on their hands for two years when we had an absolute majority.

We had waited literally decades to have that happen again, and what was on their wish list? Sunseted tax reform and…

Yes, Mitch is touted as being a SCOTUS Justice wizard. Can someone explain to me then how a wizard could remain virtually lips sewed shut with a candidate
like Jackson in the qué?

Would a Democrat Majority Leader remain mum on a Republican appointee?
Ahhhhhhhh, NO!

Beyond that, his responsibility should go farther. If I were in there, I would be
trying to avoid support for people like Roberts or others who might offer up
opinions that are counter to the US Constitution. I would try to work with the president to avoid troubling appointments.

Mitch just plods away. Good/bad nominations, he plods away.

Sorry folks, he’s worthless.

For decades I was against term limits.
My thought process was: We have term limits, at the ballot box.

After this last election fiasco, my mind has changed.
We do not have control at the ballot box.
Time for term limits.
The question is: How do we get them to vote for their own demise?

They never will. Just like they will never have serious ethics laws that prevent them from profiting handsomely from public service.

Term limits on the individual are not enough. There should be term limits on all gov't employees. Nobody should have a career in gov't at any level.

Otherwise, the politician will step aside and their chief of staff will run for office while the politician becomes their chief of staff.

The key to term limits must be to eliminate the swamp of shifting roles and jobs in the federal govt.
