A woman is facing a drug charge after police discovered 229 pounds of marijuana inside the car she abandoned on a Tennessee bridge when the vehicle ran out of gas, authorities said.
According to WHBQ-TV, Memphis police arrested Catherine Mardesich, 54, on a charge of possession of a controlled substance in connection with the incident, which occurred Sunday.
In a Facebook post Monday, the department said Tennessee Department of Transportation and Arkansas State Police responded at 3:30 p.m. Sunday to a report of an abandoned Chevrolet Suburban on the Interstate 55 bridge. Authorities moved the vehicle, which had been struck on the bridge, to the nearby Metal Museum so officers could complete the crash report.
“While on the scene, the driver, Catherine Mardesich, returned. The car had been left due to being out of gas,” the post read. “She was advised that the vehicle was to be inventoried and towed. She advised that officers could not go inside the car.”
Officers then approached the car and “smelled raw marijuana coming from the vehicle,” according to the post.
While searching the vehicle, officers found $17,800 and boxes containing 229 pounds of marijuana, WHBQ reported.
Police arrested Mardesich and took her to Jail East in Shelby County, the department said.
($17,800)
Guess she was also planning on filling up the gas tank on that Suburban.
⛽⛽⛽
Must have seen Biden’s gas prices.
A full tank of gas will be worth more than the weed pretty soon.
“Arresting people for murder doesn’t cut down on murder.”
Decriminalize murder?
Pete Buttigieg points out that this would not have happened if she had an electric car and a long enough extension cord ...
Arresting people for homicide/murder is not meant to reduce murders. It’s meant to punish those convicted of murder.
And you using murder analogy to pot, is absurd.
All that cash and couldn’t top off the tank and keep an eye on the gauge. Way to go.....duh.
Many moons ago (35+ yr.) when I had a home in the Keys, a numbskull was busted for transporting over 1000 K’s of the Peruvian Marching Dust in an RV on his way to the mainland.
A tail light was out...... one bulb.
It’s a waste of time and resources. Not to mention destroying lives.
Then why do people risk it?
Because they think they won’t get caught and the money.
She won’t get “intent to distribute” if she claims it was all for personal use.
What a drag.
Is there gas in the car? Yes, there's gas in the car
I think the people down the hall know who you are...
“What’s in what boxes? Were they in the trunk?, ‘cause I have never used the trunk. This is my Boyfriend’s vehicle.
What did you find?”
I COULD say, “Isn’t it just like a woman to run out of gas?”,but i won’t ....
I guess a hundred keys was more than she could lug off the bridge and hide someplace.
EVEN at $6 a gallon, she had enough cash to buy gasoline before she ran out
A woman is facing a drug charge
that is the least of her worries
Good one, a great song.
Ass, gas or grass, nobody rides free.
I once ran out of gas on the highway and luckily took an off ramp which led to a car dealership which I was able to roll into. I was not carrying 229 pounds of weed at the time.
