Donald Trump and the Republicans’ midterm dilemma

For a certain kind of establishment Republican, David McCormick has the perfect CV: a West Point graduate and former Army ranger with a PhD from Princeton, several years in the George W Bush administration, and most recently, a stint as the chief executive of Bridgewater Associates, one of the world’s biggest hedge funds.

But in a crowded ballroom just north of Pittsburgh last month, McCormick, who is now running for US Senate, projected a different image: one of a “battle-tested” and “Pennsylvania true” candidate campaigning in lockstep with former US president Donald Trump.

Trump was not in western Pennsylvania that evening. But he cast a long shadow, with Lee Greenwood’s patriotic anthem “God Bless the USA”, a constant feature of the former president’s rallies, streaming over the loudspeakers. On stage, a parade of former Trump administration officials, from one-time White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders to televangelist and self-described pastor to Trump Paula White, lined up tell voters why McCormick had their support.

At one point, McCormick thanked Sean Parnell — who Trump endorsed in the Pennsylvania Senate race last year before Parnell suspended his campaign amid allegations of spousal and child abuse — calling him a “great friend” and “great source of advice”.

At the same time, 40 miles away, on the other side of Pittsburgh, Mehmet Oz, the 61-year-old cardiothoracic surgeon and daytime television personality better known to most Americans as “Dr Oz”, was holding his own campaign events.

Between this guy McCormick and Dr. Oz, I'm getting the feeling that Trump picked the better of the two (after his endorsed candidate dropped out).

In the article is a picture of McCormick and his wife Dina Powell. That name sounded familiar so I looked her up.

Too of the search list "Goldman Sachs official bio." She's the "global head of sustainability and inclusive growth."

Worked for Bush and Trump. Yada yada.

We may get another Pat Toomey with Dr. Oz, but he's preferable to Establishment McCormick and his Establishment wife.

McCormick is your standard Blackrock RINO Establishment guy. I do not trust him one bit.

I have a whole lot of doubts about Dr. Oz but this guy I definitely do not trust.

Its a shame the Democrats were able to smear Parnell with totally unsubstantiated family court allegations. Those kinds of accusations get thrown around in divorce/custody fights all the time. They’re trying the same tactic with Greitens in Missouri.

Neither candidate is perfect. I just hope they elect the guy who will toe the party line more often in the Senate. We do NOT need a swing vote in this seat.

Meet Dina Powell, Ivanka Trump’s woman in the White House

Goldman Sachs executive Dina Habib Powell is joining the Trump administration in a senior role focused on entrepreneurship, economic growth and the empowerment of women.

President-elect Donald Trump’s transition Team announced the position for Powell, 43, who previously served in the Bush White House and State Department, confirmed the new position to CNN Wednesday, which was first reported by Politico.

“Dina Powell is a tremendous talent and has a stellar record of public service as well as a great career in the private sector,” the President-elect said in a statement. “She has been recognized for her strategic oversight of key programs and initiatives and is a leader in both economic growth and the crucial empowerment of women in various aspects of business development and entrepreneurial endeavors.”

Powell has been advising Ivanka Trump, who first reached out to Powell regarding women’s programming.

The move shows at least one way Ivanka Trump’s agenda will manifest itself in her father’s administration. She has long said she will work to champion issues such as equal pay and paid family leave if her father won the White House, saying at the Republican National Convention in July: “Policies that allow women with children to thrive should not be novelties, they should be the norm.”

I still think that if this truly is Trump and the Republicans’ “Dilemma,” the the DNC and Biden are infinitely far worse.

The words disaster, catastrophe, dystopian, debacle come to mind.

Aside from that, I’m not really interested in what some UK venue has to say about it.

Yep, woke to the core and itching to become part of the deep state.
