One of my favorites is how the German government helped smuggle Lenin back into Russia on April 16th, 1917 (as he had previously been living in exile in Switzerland), because the Bolsheviks were opposed to Russia's participation in the World War, and Germany wanted Russia to withdraw ASAP given America's recent involvement.
And so Germany helped sow the seeds for Bolshevik Russia and the rise of the Soviet Union.
History shows that the word of *any* country tends to lose its worth if they judge a treaty or agreement to be against their national interest.
