More than you.

I live where a lot of food is made. The majority of my food in the larder is from withing 200 miles (except for the seafood obviously).

Want to know something? The coming food situation was coming even if Russia and Ukraine just played contract bridge for pennies, rather than war.

The US will be ok. Most of Europe will be ok. Africa will not be. The wild card, and one that I have a suspicion about it, is China.

Their wheat crop failed, they lost their pork herd (which I found rather odd how fast that happened prior to CV19), and now the avian flu is taking out their last major source of animal protein.

South American soybeans are already cut off, and from the quiet estimates of North America I doubt we will be sending them much soon (same with pork and chicken), because in the great game we have cards to play too.

All that was in play well before anything happened in the Black Sea area. Enough so that the commodity prices were starting to reflect. Even the fertilizer issues were already baked into the cake before the war started. Back in October producers were told that fertilizer was about to be so expensive you had better find another way. In the Midwest and prairie provinces, that sucks but is doable. In many other places that means the land will not support a crop worth harvesting.

So the big question for Russia is not if the US has enough food, or even Europe. But what happens when a billion hungry Chinese look north.

Because from what I have seen, that is already happening.

The US will be ok.

The holier-than-thou virtue-signaler who is so concerned about Ukraine doesn't give flying fig about starvation in the third world, as long as he's got his.
