Reuters ^

Kyiv was hit on Friday by some of the most powerful explosions heard since Russian forces withdrew from the area two weeks ago. Moscow said it had struck a plant in capital that made and repaired Ukrainian missiles, including anti-ship missiles.

It’s clear that a great many things are not as represented.

1) the Russian military is not a fearsome force...it’s a joke.

2) their military hardware is even worse than we imagined.

3) their military strategists are plain stupid.

Putin has painted himself into a corner with no plausible way out. This operation did not go as envisioned/planned. His first objective should have been to take Kiev and bury Zelenski in a “Shock and Awe” style blitz.

This operation is a classic example of what NOT to do.

Just look to Saddam Hussein and his regime to understand Putin. Similar KGB advisors and decision making. Same world view.

Russia says it struck Kyiv missile factory after flagship sinks

Pootie fans say it's only a coincidence, after the fire on the flagship.

Taking Kyiv was always a stretch with the forces Russia had available.

But it is incomprehensible why things like missile factories survived the first week.

The problem for Russia now is that it’s running out of most everything it needs to make war against Ukraine. That includes tanks, missiles, ships, transport vehicles, helicopters, jets, and worst of all, soldiers. About the only things they still have in adequate supply are chemical and nuclear weapons. This all makes them more unpredictable. Rational people face reality. Leftists and dictators don’t.

” it is incomprehensible why things like missile factories survived the first week.”

I don’t understand this myself. In our recent wars the big problem is that after a couple of weeks the airforce is all out of good targets.

It’s taken Russia weeks to delivery attacks to major military bases. It seems they have so few missiles that they can only make a symbolic strike every week or so.

Russia says its ship sank due to bad weather. Just to be sure that doesn’t happen again, they blew up a Ukrainian missile manufacturing facility.

They say it was from an ammo explosion.

What they don’t say is that it was Ukrainian ammo exploding.

It’s dangerous to draw these conclusions. A military is built to fight on a particular doctrine. The Russian military was built to fight the United States and NATO. Therefore, they have invested huge amounts in forces they can’t use in Ukraine. The nuclear missile force and the Navy are largely useless and any appearance by them puts them in great danger because they weren’t designed for the Ukraine conflict. We also can’t draw conclusions about their strategists as their strategists, if they were even consulted, had to conform to whatever Putin already believed or they’d be “fired.” Russia has become a brittle battle force because it all depends on one old man and how he sees the world. Even in the Soviet days big decisions were not the provenance of the “dictator.” There was a multi-man group that took those decisions together so there was a chance that whatever flaws the plans had would be adequately fleshed out and addressed. But with just one man making all the calls any flaws he has will be reflected on the battlefield and that’s what we are seeing. Drawing sweeping, definitive conclusions from what we are seeing would be a mistake. The bad calls the Russians have made can all be addressed in five minutes with an assassin’s bullet and then the force we’d be facing would have potentially overcome what we are perceiving as failures.

Now, reflect these questions on our own U.S. military brass and their handling of the Afghan withdrawal. The world is awash in moronic elites who can’t tie their own shoes.

To a Russian soldier who has been involuntarily drafted to fight in Ukraine against his cousin, it is worse than an American soldier involuntarily drafted to fight in Vietnam.

These 18 year old Russians do not want to be in this conflict. They want to go home, to be with girlfriends, play Xbox and ride skateboards. They want to live like Europeans, not like Mongolians.

They have no motivation or will to fight this war. Putin knows this, hence the patriotic rallies, and warnings about how these events will forever define the existence of Russia.

Putin is being pushed into a corner and will have no recourse, except to use nuclear weapons. This will be the end of Europe, the end of America and the end of Russia!

Might have been a good idea, going to war and all, to disable the ship destroying missile plant before they use it to sink your prize warship.

Not really. Order of importance: command and control, air defense, lines of communication and supply, then the units that can attack you, then long term strategic items like factories.

Missiles take time to build, so that’s not priority one at the beginning of conflict.

Putin failed to achieve even the top priorities except in a limited sense. As others have said, the Russians have provided many examples of how not to fight a war.

The US wasn’t in a conflict with the industrialized nation since 1945. Criticism of the Russian forces in this conflict is laughable. For one thing, Ukraine had more SAM and more advanced than the rest of NATO. Ukraine also had 10 times as many tanks as Germany. Most people here do not realize the level of attrition taking place. The idea that NATO is going to easily sustain a conflict like this is humorous. It is now being said that some countries have run out of weapons by sending them to Ukraine.

I doubt that it was a missile factory. The Ukraine is not advanced enough to make ship killing missiles.
