Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) claimed victory Wednesday after the governor of Mexico’s Nuevo Leon province promised to curb illegal migration in exchange for Abbott ending stringent safety checks on the trucks used to export goods from the province’s factories and farms.
“Today is a historic day where two governors are showing how to lead on border issues,” Abbot told a press conference where he denounced President Joe Biden’s easy migration rules and his plan to remove the Title 42 legal barrier on May 23.
Abbott said:
"Governor [Samuel] Garcia [Sepulveda] and I reached an agreement today … Governor Garcia has begun and will continue enhancing border security enforcement measures on the Nuevo Leon side of the border, both at ports of entry and alongside the Rio Grande River, to prevent illegal immigration … The Texas Department of Public Safety can return to its previous practice [and] The effect of this will be that the bridge from Nuevo Leone and Texas will return to normal, effective immediately. Right now. It will remain that way as long as the Nuevo Leon executes this historic agreement."
The deal reopens just one of several border crossings that have been clogged by the governor’s policy of stringent safety checks. Abbot says he has begun negotiations with other Mexican governors:
"I look forward to working with all of them toward achieving results similar to what we are achieving today with Governor Garcia. Until, however, those agreements are reached with those states, the Texas Department of Public Safety will continue to thoroughly inspect vehicles entering into the United States from every Mexican state except Nuevo Leon."

Seriously? Make the Mexicans PROVE that illegal immigration will be stopped. And, what is the metric to verify it? What if what they are doing is just temporary? So many questions, so little action from Abbott.
We’ll see if this has any effect, but that will be difficult to measure. If Abbott was serious he would put a heavily armed Texas National Guard on the border and use violent force to stop the invasion. The invasion would stop very quickly and fewer lives will be lost than with a continued invasion.
Poor old Governor Abbott just can’t do anything to please you guys, can he?
They’re morons who took the blackpill attempting to blackpill others
How does a governor make a foreign country do anything? Why don’t you armchair quarterbacks blame the Biden administration instead of blaming Governor Abbott?
Arm chair quarterback? Whatever. I am just a lowly citizen of Texas. Yes, Biden caused this and Biden is intent on making it worse by the day. Abbott is my governor, and just like I have a right to criticize Biden, which I do daily or more often, when my governor sits on his hands for the past year, I will also criticize.
The action I want Abbott to take, which is not only his right constitutionally, but his obligation, is to formally declare that Texas is being invaded, which it clearly is, and put the entire National Guard on the border, armed, with direct orders to repel and push all invaders back across the border and keep them there.
That is why I voted for West in the primary. However, Abbott is my governor now and will be re-elected. I do expect him to address the issue using the full authority available to him.
Spin cycle is in overdrive.
“And of course DC blows it off.”
I haven’t seen the Whitehouse comment on this.
Fully armed NG were training at the border last wee it would be nice if they are allowed to do more than change diapers.
Thanks, fellow Texan.
They will. They’re joking off the busing of illegals, blaming Abbott for the truck backlog (and the economy) on Abbott ... it’s only a matter of time before they jump at this one too.
Abbott was just on Tucker, says he’s working out the details with all other border Mexican governors. They don’t want the truck backload!
