The Nixon that kissed Mao’s but?

China was an enigma in those days. Things would happen
internally and we wouldn’t know about them for months.
We were in the middle of a Cold War with Russia and China
was on its border. One billion plus people were in that
country at the time. Seeking to wedge between the two
was not a bad idea. I have never seen the opening up
of China as bad. What our government and big business
did in the early 1990s was. I know, and perhaps you did
also that we would be exactly where we are today. I tried
to warn people, but they just didn’t want to hear it. Well
here we are.

The Nixon who created the epa and osha?

I don’t have to like either one of those to know that he
was not an enemy of our nation. He did some thing I didn’t
like but to compare him to today’s Democrats, the guy
comes off looking like a saint.

The Democrats of those days were enemies of our nation,
even then.

He didn’t sell China top level space tech that would allow
them to launch more successfully or target our assets
better, or use MIRV tech. He didn’t promote excessive
trade that would make China a very formidable enemy.

Look, those are not good, but you should realize that in
perspective, those things are nowhere near as bad as
stealing an election. Nixon had one stolen on him, and he
graciously conceded for the good of the nation.

He truly wasn’t in it for himself, like today’s politicians
are.

Here was a guy that went after the types of Leftists we
have today. He helped try to root them out of top level
positions around the nation.

I don’t agree with that either. We have the type of deficits
we have today because of it. Would we have been able to
spend like we did in order to cause the USSR to go belly up,
without having done that? Were there other reasons it may
have been prudent at the time? I’ve always thought that
it wasn’t, but I wasn’t old enough at the time to have
been able to evaluate what was going on and assess it
properly.

As for whether Nixon got a fair shake or not, the Left
destroyed him. In 1972 he won by the largest landslide in
US history (if not, very close to it). He was not hated
by the populace. George McGovern touted many of the Leftist
ideas we see adopted today. He took the Democrat party
Left and it never returned.

The media, the schools, the universities went after Nixon
from the day he was elected until long after his death.
They still vilify him today.

He wasn’t 1/100th as bad as the Leftists we have today.

He was handed off Vietnam with over 500,000 troops there.
From that day on, it was his war. Johnson was never blamed
for it. They right away started attacking Nixon for not
ending it sooner.

The truth is he could have ended that war three years
earlier and on much better terms, but the Democrats
started backing the North. They defeated any effort
Nixon made to take it to the North and end the war.

The media lied about what was going on over there. They
flat ass made it appear the NVC were winning when they
weren’t. More than once Congress forced cease fires
when Nixon had them on the run. This gave the NVC time
to re-arm. The Dems did it saying they were supporting
the process to end the war, bringing the NVC to the
bargaining table.

Well, you can see what they worked out. It certainly
wasn’t in our favor.

I remember well the Left spitting on our troops coming
home. I remember well them refusing to hire them.

Nixon is one of the most mistreated and slandered
political figures of all time. I don’t have to agree
with him on everything to know what they did to him,
and it wasn’t in the best interest of our nation.

Wasn’t it Haldeman that had one FBI file. He got five to
seven years in prison for it. Hillary had ever a thousand.
She ordered them to be delivered to the White House.
Explain how that happened.

In other words, Haldeman who served under Nixon was treated
over 1,000 time worse than Hillary for the same thing.

She was never even talked to about it.

No, sorry, Nixon was not the bad guy he as been portrayed
as being.
